We stayed at the Moana Surfrider for 6 nights in May 2013. Ever since I first visited waikiki back in 2005 I have always wanted to stay here. I was travelling with my husband and 3 year old daughter. We stayed in the Tower Wing (which had nice generous bedrooms) in a deluxe city view room. The room still allowed us view of waikiki beach, which was a pleasant surprise.
This hotel is a very busy hotel, and the lifts in the tower wing we found took a while to come. Doing laundry was very difficult because it was in the basement of the diamond wing and they only had two washing machines and two dryers. I found that when I came to move my washing to the dryer, someone had left my clothes on the side (mind you I set the timer on my phone to make sure I came back once the cycle finished).
Other than that, we enjoyed the little photo booth in the foyer of the hotel and the daily lime and mango elixir drinks at reception. This is a beautiful property, but it is very busy!
If you have a car the entire time, it might be worth using the valet (especially if you have little kids). Only the top two floors of the parking lot at the Princess Kaiulani has elevator access. « less

The bar under the banyan tree in the back of the hotel is my favorite - go have a drink even if you don't stay here. Easy access to the beach - no crossing the street. I have stayed in a room that faces the street - it is a bit noisy, but with the window closed you can still sleep. « less

The food at the Beach Bar and Service Great ( but on Hawaiian time ) Relax and Enjoy!!! It's On the Ocean. Housekeeping staff the Best and Friendly. Every time we requested something from Service Express for our room it arrived in 5 min FAST FAST FAST !!!! see pictures of our room and views. « less

Cons Rather expensive (this probably kept my rating from 5 star) No microwave No dvd player
If you want to see the famous Waikiki beach, and you can afford it, consider this resort. I did not have much to complain about this place. A lot of nice touches throughout my stay here. It had the good balance of catering to families as well as singles. Although I went off-season, the hotel was pretty full. Checking in took a long time as there was frequently a lineup at reservations. (And coming from a long flight from Australia, you want to check in asap!) Considering the age of this hotel, it is in excellent condition, and the room I was in was reasonably spaced. I would recommend checking this resort out if you are planning a trip to Honolulu. « less
