We stayed her 3 nights on weekdays. I hear they fill up on weekends but during the week we had it to ourselves. I found the service top notch! We got a killer deal on Travelocity and they also upgraded us to a large room with bay views and a queen bed. Also make sure to join Fairmonts president club (free!) and you can get free wifi and also use their bikes. The location is great. There are also other hotels with good locations in the city so don't get fooled that this your only option. However, it is a beautiful historic hotel and if you like that it's for you. Our bedroom was dated looking and tired looking. Small bathroom too. But it's kind of case because it's a historical hotel. It would be weird to have it to modern. Although I do think they could refresh the furniture. We also ate in the Empress room. Good breakfast but super pricey! We loved eating eating on the veranda for lunch. Pricey too but better value. Bottom line staying here is an historical experience and worth it if you can get a good deal. « less

I stayed here last Fall, just myself and my two year old. We were late arriving and our luggage didn't. When I told this to Carmine (sp?) at the front desk, she offered to help. I said we would be fine and our luggage would come the next day. About 40 minutes later she arrived to the room with toiletries, an outfit and pajamas. She had run out to the local store to buy supplies so that we would not be without. Then, she would not accept reimbursement!!! The housekeeping manager was exactly the same way. She had heard about our lost luggage and arrived with a bag of clothes and toys (she had popped home to get from her own daughter's closet). I was in absolute shock!! This level of service continued throughout our entire 4 day stay. Amazing service in all respects. Highly recommend the hotel.
Location, quality, etc is also awesome but the service just leaves a lasting impression. « less

We must say that we really enjoyed our stay at The Fairmont Empress, Victoria, BC. This is a grand old hotel, with so much heritage, and located in a fabulous location. We found the service to be first class, and the rooms absolutely fabulous (although we did get an upgrade - sensational). The one drawback we experienced was the breakfast - way too much fried/heavy/stodgy food, and it was a real challenge to find something healthy on the menu. « less

Although our room was quite small, we had a queen bed and it was very clean. The linens, towels and amenities were great. Our windows opened which was a plus for us as we like to sleep with our windows open. There is no air conditioning in the hotel but our room had a ceiling fan. We found this more than adequate for May which was when we stayed. We ate breakfast in the Empress Room one morning and had a buffet breakfast the next morning. We were on a tour and had our own Buffet Dinner one night. All the meal were well presented and we enjoyed them. The staff for very attentative and provided excellent service. We enjoyed our stay at the Fairmont Empress « less

We loved the Empress Hotel and hope to return again. Not only is the hotel beautiful but so are the people who work there. Particularly the Gold Staff! They were so kind, friendly, and enjoyable to be around, they made sure that we had everything we needed and every question answered. They made us feel like royalty. « less
