The fan in the bathroom was permanently on though, I forgot to tell them. I would definately stay here again and recommend it to anyone needing a good safe hotel in that area. « less

I booked this hotel through a travel bidding website. I was a little bit nervous about how far outside of Boston it was, but the kids' one big request was an indoor pool and I was able to get a deal on this hotel for under $100 a night. (Practically impossible to find a hotel with an indoor pool at that price, inside Boston.) We found it to be a very easy 20 minute drive into Boston via Hwy 1,and an even quicker drive to Salem. Getting there would have been easy had we not been trying to follow electronic directions which were *way off* for this property. I recommend just calling the front desk to ask for directions from the freeway because this is one situation where GPS will lead you far astray. Front desk staff at the hotel were very nice.
The room was nice enough, if a bit small. The two bed option is doubles, not queens, which makes it a tight squeeze for a family sharing one room, but the beds are comfortable and the room was clean and modern. For some reason, the bathroom door did not shut correctly unless you forced it, making a loud noise. Not a big thing for a family if you don't mind leaving it slightly ajar in the middle of the night, but I'm surprised the hotel has left it this way. (Room 227, if management is reading this review.) No dressers for storing your clothes, so expect to stay more or less packed. Free no hassle wifi was much appreciated, wish it were the standard everywhere. I used the business center to print our boarding passes on the last day, with no charge for using the computers or printing.
I looked at the breakfast buffet, which is served in the hotel, but at 10.95 per person (kids under 12 eat free) we thought we could find better prices and slightly more inspired food off site. The lunch and dinner restaurant (Carrabas) is not actually accessible from the hotel without going outside and walking for a bit across the parking lot, which I wasn't really prepared for in a late night jaunt to the cocktail lounge. (Lighting and signage could use a lot of work, kinda scary.) Once I got there the waitstaff seemed really put out that I sat at a booth in the bar area and only ordered a drink. It seemed like a popular (and loud) social destination for locals and me and my book and my cocktail were a little out of place. Kinda wish there were a cocktail lounge inside the hotel that was a little more hotel guest friendly.
Most importantly though, the indoor pool was great. So warm it was almost a hot tub, decently sized, but also with a large shallow end for the youngest who is not yet a very strong swimmer. Two thumbs up from the kids, which combined with the price makes me give the place four stars overall. Happy to stay here and save money for some really good Italian food in Boston's North End. :) « less
