This Holiday Inn is very near the airport and nearly close enough to reach out and touch the tram that runs around the 3 terminals, NJ Transit and parking. However, it really is about 10 minutes away because of roads.
The pick up point is not at the terminals where planes take off and land but at P4 area. This is not the hotels doing but an ordinance of some kind. Therefore, plan to put 30 to 45 minutes into your schedule to get to or from the actual terminal. Today, we allowed 2 hours from the hotel to departure and just about didn't make it (TSA was partially to blame with only one line open at 6:30 a.m.). The staff driving were very nice since we checked in and then went back to the airport to take the train into the city, then back to the hotel and finally to the airport - 3 different drivers - 4 trips - all nice.
The rooms were very nice, very clean, well appointed and great pillows. The toilets flush with HIGH efficiency that you can hear at least 2 rooms away (and we did). There is a restaurant in the lobby and bar - though we didn't try either one.
If you buy NJ Transit tickets to go or come from the City, remember to keep them on you until you are out of the train station or they are collected from you. I was surprised when I needed it after the train to get through a gate (and it automatically collected the ticket). « less

We needed a hotel to stay for one night before an early morning flight.This hotel was perfect for that. It has very easy access via shuttle to and from the airport. This hotel looks like it has been recently remodeled and our room was beautiful. We did not try the restaurant but a man in the elevator raved about how good his dinner had been there. I would definitely choose to stay here again. « less

This hotel is in an industrial area very near the airport in Newark. There is a free shuttle from station P4 at the airport. We had to pay for breakfast, not included in our room rate. The rooms are either new or newly remodeled--very contemporary, with excellent bed and bath. Internet connection is excellent, and free with the room. We stayed here upon arrival from Europe, because we arrived too late to catch our connection.
There are no close restaurants to the hotel (2 to 4 miles away), but fortunately there is a good one in the hotel. We were surprised and pleased at the options available and the costs were reasonable. The hotel includes a 15% gratuity on ALL charges, which I find objectionable, but I understand the rationale. They are very honest about this--it's posted in the room and every restaurant bill has "gratuity included" stamped on it in red ink.
The service staff are very pleasant and helpful--a welcome change from some NYC-area hotels.
This is a fine hotel if you are using the airport. « less

I recently had the misfortune of getting stuck in Newark. I wasn't willing to pay the exhorbitant rate at the airport Marriott, so I went here because it had good reviews on several sites and the price was right. The room looked old and tired and the bathroom was bad. The fan in the bathroom was not an exhaust, all it did was recirculate the air through a filter and the filter was disgusting. There were smoking rooms on other floors and you could smell it. The restaurant was ok, but service was slow. « less
