In 2007, Royalton proudly re-opened its doors onto midtown Manhattan, re-thought, re-imagined, but still an icon. Morgans commissioned Roman and Williams, the New York design firm, to re-create Royalton’s legendary lobby as a crossroads for international travelers and the New York elite. The design – simultaneously sophisticated and complex – juxtaposes an icy cast-glass vestibule and brutalist steel and brass furnishings with soft suede upholstery, thick leather walls and hide-covered chairs to create a dark, sexy and luxurious space. Design and architectural details include a mammoth floor-to-ceiling hand forged cast–bronze fireplace, a twenty-foot screen that was once part of the façade of a building in France and hand-upholstered leather walls done in a pattern reminiscent of African tribal art.

We stayed at the Royalton for 3 nights. It is so central which is so wonderful in New York. We could walk everywhere. The walk to Central Park and Time Square is so convenient. It also has Bryant park one block away which is also awesome. The alcove room was fab and very spacious and highly recommended. Yes it is a bit dark when checking in and a bit more light would be nice, but luckily one does not hand around the reception area all day! Breakfasts were great and staff are very friendly and helpful. Will recommend it! « less

We visited the Royalton with our adult children (in their 20s), so we had two rooms. We enjoyed our suite for the extra room and wonderful bathroom, but it was disappointing that the fireplace wasn't actually available to use. Our room was otherwise great, with nice linens and pillows, and very quiet. We were looking for a place that would seem hip and modern for the kids, while offering the luxury that we older types enjoy. My other "must" was a lobby fireplace, since we were there in the winter time (12/27-12/31). The Royalton was the perfect match!
We all loved sitting downstairs near the beautiful bronze fireplace, enjoying a drink and the roaring fire after a day out in the cold. One thing to note is that the tables near the fireplace can be reserved, which I found odd, so if you would like to be next to the fire you may want to plan ahead for the evening.
We found the location to be perfect; within walking distance to many restaurants, shopping and even the theatre, without being in the madness near Times Square.
We only ate bar snacks, so I can't comment on the restaurant. Overall, our whole experience at the Royalton was excellent! « less

This hotel is about a block from Avenue of the Americas and is right across the street from the Algonquin. We were graciously met at the front of the hotel by a bellboy and escorted into the hotel, to the registration desk and to our room. The hotel is very urban chic in decor. It is very dark inside but this adds to the atmosphere. The room was very small but more than adequate and very clean. Nicely appointed bathroom with huge round tub and rain showerhead.This was a great place to stay for a few nights in New York and the price was reasonable for the Big Apple! The restaurant was very good for breakfast. Would stay here again. « less

The "hipness" of this hotel can take a little adjusting if you are over 40, but it is worth it. We checked in at night when the lounge without walls in the lobby had its music amped up and a lot of patrons partying. But, the staff, particularly the concierge, is helpful and personable. The location is ideal--near Fifth Avenue shopping, Grand Central for transportation and Broadway theatre. The room is large and comfortable, complete with large screen TV and the use of I-Padand Internet. My only negative is the valet parking is expensive ($56 night), but there is a self park garage next door at lower rates. « less

This was our second stay in a year and a half. Close to Broadway shows, Grand Central Station, walking distance to MOMA. One half block from International Center for Photography. Great for walking uptown to Museum of Modern Art or downtown to Lincoln Center. Wonderful breakfasts. Busy bar scene at night in lobby, but once you are upstairs it is very quiet. Very helpful staff. Good business center. Gave us free wi-fi. I Pad in room. Will definitely go back when next in NYC. « less
