Its okay but not better than average. There seams to be a staffing issue, or management issue that keeps them from being better than average. For example, it took many minutes to get someone to the front desk to check in. The staff appears to focus on their minimal duties, nothing more. The garbage can outside the front door was overflowed for a couple of days and not emptied until a complaint was made. I think this could be a very good hotel if the staff could take it up a notch. But upon my four night visit it is average at best. « less

From New Orleans we went to Baton Rouge. We had booked a room in this hotel. The hotel is very nice. The room was wonderful and very big, it was not very crowded. For a change we had this time no valet parking. They serve a good breakfast. They say they are located downtown but when you want to go to the city center you must go by car. It's too far to walk, even for us Europeans. We booked this room with points and we were not expecting much because it is in the lower echelon of BW hotels. Knock me over! We entered into this charming little hotel and were just blown over. The lobby area featured a courtyard where breakfast was served. Surrounding the courtyard were beautiful wrought iron balconies. A little fish pool with a small waterfall bubbled serenely. This hardly prepared us for our beautiful room. King bed in front of french doors that looked out over the clean, clean pool. Small kitchen area and separate sofa. A bathroom sink area could be closed off so one could get up early and shower without waking the sleeping husband! Clean, clean, clean.
The staff was beyond helpful. Love, love this place! « less

Picked this hotel as it was close to the friends I was visiting for Xmas AND it offered free in-room wifi plus fridge and micro AND a hot buffet breakfast at a fairly reasonable rate. I also thought it sounded unique and nicer than the mostly budget motel chains which dominate the less than exciting southwest area of BR. It is very attractive from the outside but calling it a "chateau" is a bit misleading. It's more like a N'orleans townhouse with the red brick facade and wrought iron details. All the rooms are grouped around an interior courtyard with a fountain where a so-so breakfast is served 7-9AM (scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, grits, pastries, OJ but no fruit other than whole apples or bananas and only Lipton tea bags for non-coffee-drinkers like me). The room was large but under-furnished and a bit worn. The bed was shoved up against the window AC unit and the electrical cords were scary. The frig and microwave were tiny but serviceable, the TV and wifi worked fine and the bath area was larger than most hotels. The whole place was extremely quiet--except for the in-house construction that prohibited sleeping in! The outdoor pool looked inviting but the weather turned cold so didn't get to try it. The surrounding area is lacking in all but afew fastfood chains so not much to venture out for. All in all it was adequate and I'll probably stay here next time I come to BR for Xmas but not sure who else to recommend it to. « less
