I went out to see my husband, who was working in LA for a week or so, and I cannot say how lovely and friendly this hotel was. There is no bar, however. BUT - every week day from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. they have free wines and nibbles (actually more than nibbles) on the bar in the breakfast area. Just help yourself and take your drinks out to the pool area. We had a lovely king bed room there's a massive supermarket just across the highway - where you can buy wine if you want it - and there's a fridge and microwave in the room if you really want these things. But, more important this this to me, was the fact that there is a guest laundry - so I washed, dried (and ironed, because there is an iron and ironing board in the room) all my husband's shirts for our onward trip up to san Francisco. It cost US$ 6 for the whole thing. Sad, but had to be done! Breakfast - what can I say about that! Huge if you want that - a massive omelette with everything if you want it - followed by batter/waffles - but it you want the healthy option - bran flakes/muesli yogurt, fresh fruit / fruit juice - it's all there. The manager is British - Vince - ex teacher who loves what he does and is good at it - will happily walk round the breakfast room, filling up coffee cups and chatting to the guests. I was on my own there for two days and just sat by the fabulous swimming pool, reading and swimming and enjoying the Jacuzzi. It was all lovely and friendly and made my trip...! « less

My daughter and I traveled to Laguna to visit my son and daughter-in-law on Mother's Day. I looked for an inexpensive hotel that was close by to his apartment. So I wasn't expecting much but hoping for a clean, quiet facility. I was blown away! It's a beautiful hotel! The room was very attractive, the beds comfortable and I have to say (and I've been to quite a few hotels recently) run by the nicest group of employees! They made us feel very welcome when we checked in and any employee we saw while we were there was equally helpful. Our stay included breakfast and again I was expecting the usual continental fare and was surprised to find an omelette bar, waffles and many breakfast choices. One of the managers refilled our coffee and asked if we enjoyed our stay... I will ALWAYS stay at The Ayres when I'm in town! « less

My room was amazing. A beautiful hotel. Perfect setting... The hotel was fabulous from the rooms, breakfast, staff, and even the soft music playing in the background. The staff was professional, helpful, friendly and provided excellent customer care to every guest. I love the shuttle service. The value o the hotel was good. I would not hesitate to stay at his hotel again or another of these properties. Although, I was a little apprehensive when I first booked my reservation, but my stay has changed any doubt.
Thanks to the Ayres's Hotel Staff in helping to make my stay an enjoyable one. « less

The hotel and staff far exceeded our expectations. The greeting was warm and courteous. The soft music, artwork and furnishings set a comforting tone to our stay. Our room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. The free breakfast was one of the best we have ever had - eggs, bacon/sausage, pancakes, waffles, fruit, etc. - and the eggs could be made to order, fried, omelets, for example. The hotel was easy to find, near the freeway and only about five to six miles to Laguna Beach. My wife and I would not hesitate to return and stay at this hotel again. In addition, we will likely search for other Ayres Hotels when we go on vacation or other excursions. « less

I like the fact that Hotel is energy conscious - you need your key - European style to turn on your electricity. The room was spacious and clean although one night I did wake up with bites - from somewhere - not sure where. The bed was extremely hiqh quality. Appointments professional and pleasant. Breakfast was limited in alternatives, but pretty good. When I asked if the potatoes had onions (I can't tolerate onions) he said how about a sausage? Not really what I had in mind. (No pork for me.) When I was rushing to leave for a meeting, I discovered that they had locked me out of my room and side door entry at 9 AM for a posted 11 AM departure time. That was not only disrespectful but inconvenient (got me as I was loading the car and had to run around to front desk to get a new computer-keyed key). Note that breakfast time is shifted weekdays - weekends. I would stay there again but it is no Hilton. « less
