We stayed in this hotel for three nights. One night was on the way to Santorini, and they tried putting us in a room which was quite bad and did not cater for smokers. We had booked a room with a king sized bed and on the smoking floor. The room was tiny, bathroom was so small that one can hardly move around. After complaining, they moved us to another room, which had two single beds. The staff apologised and offered to make it up for the inconvenience on the second leg of our trip. Remember, this is a five star hotel and not cheap. We had decided not to take any chances by sticking o a 5 star place for this special trip.
On the way back, we were put in a room with double bed, but the room was again tiny! We asked to be upgraded to a better room, but the additional costs quoted were in the range of a 100 dollars per night. Having already paid about 235 per night we decided not to pay anymore. The location of the hotel is good but it was a total disappointment. The hotel is not worthy of its 5 star status. The rooms are of a budget standard with tiny bathrooms. Absolutely, not worth the money we paid! Had we not paid in advance, we would have walked out! « less

I think it was because people left the tops open on the chaffing dishes. Walking distance to significant monuments and shopping - 10-20 min depending on where you are going. I asked for a recommendation for a light lunch and was sent to the very center of the tourist district to a mediocre, over-priced taverna where we got hit up by beggars and pushy street vendors while we were eating. Nice hotel but given our experience at 2 others I'm not sure that it is good value. « less

Good: Well kept, great location for 'real' Athens, excellent service, very comfortable beds, good hot water pressure, the view of the Acropolis is first class.
Bad: Old fashioned, pokey, uninspiring breakfast (poor choice of fresh fruit, no fresh juice, burnt pastries, long life milk), the gym has three pieces of equipment (bike, treadmill, weights bench) and the indoor pool is a paddling pool, you really don't want to go near it, the outdoor pool is tiny. Wifi cuts out every time you stop using your device, meaning constant re-entry of a code. It's not somewhere you want to spend your downtime.
If I went in expecting a three start I would be pleasantly surprised. Going in expecting a luxury 5 start in the heart of Athens has left me feeling undersold and pretty annoyed. « less

The breakfast was amazing in both variety and quality.We had a balcony with views of the Acropolis that was stunning and a swimming pool on the 4th floor with equally stunning views of Athens. The museum, the Acropolis, the narrow lane ways of Plaka and the Syntagma square are all within easy walking distance so need for a car. A 5 Euro taxi ride took us to Lycabettus which had 360 degree views of Athens.Only negatives were the air conditioning was not very strong in April when the temperature was 30 degrees Celsius so I don't know what it would be like in the middle of summer. Also it was a pain to have to keep asking for an iron and ironing board, but having said that, when you asked for one it was provided to you within 5 minutes. « less
