This is not your typical suburban Courtyard. It is a beautifully refurbished old brick building with incredibly high ceilings and lots of character, but It has all the modern amenities that you would expect from a Courtyard. It is also right on the pedestrian walking mall in downtown Denver with lots of shops and restaurants. My only complaint was the keycard reader wasn't working well at the elevator, but that was a minor inconvenience and one they were working to repair. « less

I met up with some old friends for a "girl's weekend" in Denver (which I wholeheartedly recommend for such a trip, by the way!) and we stayed in one of the suites at this hotel. We were very happy with the accommodations. The suite was a good size for a downtown hotel, with ample room for 3, and had a spacious balcony/patio as well with great city views and peeks of the peaks between buildings (BTW, wear your sunscreen and SPF chapstick if you're from the lower elevations, like us!). The staff at the front desk was friendly and helpful, suggesting local restaurants, hikes, providing coupons, printing directions, etc. They took great care of us. It was in a great location, good walking distance to many restaurants, bars, as well as shopping, site-seeing, etc. We only needed our rental car to get to hiking venues - when in town, we walked everywhere we wanted to go within Denver. From the space to the service, it did not disappoint. « less

While lots of people rave about the location of this hotel, the service is awful. I've had problems with key cards breaking, internet going down, laundry facilities, stuff left at the front desk for me getting put in lost property. It was only when I made fourth complaint that finally somebody apologised for the service. Stay somewhere else where they know how to deliver good service consistently. The room rates coupled with the service make this one of the worst hotels I have stayed in anywhere in the world. « less

In my last review from a year ago, I described this hotel as "Hotel Aweseomness" noting that there's little not to like at this downtown Courtyard by Marriott. The location is perfect -- along the 16th Street Mall with its free buses in the heard of downtown Denver, a short walk to the Colorado Convention Center and a short walk to Larimer Square where you'll find some of the city's best restaurants. This remains true, but the room I was assigned this time taught me that that all rooms are not created equal in this grand old former department store of a building. Unlike most Courtyard by Marriott's, this building has plenty of character. The lobby is ironically within a small courtyard built into the building that has been enclosed. While nicely restored, combining aspects of the old (high ceilings and large windows in the rooms) with modern luxuries and conveniences, the rooms that I've had on previous visits had several large windows, whereas the one on this stay had just one and the room wasn't quite as wide and was a bit more cramped. A traveling companion had a king room that faced the inside courtyard, and the view and amount of natural lights, wasn't attractive at all, nor was the size of the room, which couldn't have accommodated a roll-away bed in a practical manner. It also seems that the hotel has too few rooms with two beds, which is simply a constraint of the layout.
Unlike most downtown hotels, Internet access if free (and reliable). The staff accommodates professionally in typical Marriott style. The bedding and rooms are spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The Rialto Cafe, located within the hotel is a casual restaurant and bar, but nonetheless a big step up from the typical hotel restaurant. It faces 16th Street and unlike other hotel restaurants, seems to attract locals and others off the street. « less
