When to Visit

Denver enjoys two major tourist seasons. During the summer, you'll experience warm days, cool nights, and an abundance of outdoor activities. Festivals, carnivals, and outdoor concerts are popular throughout Denver from June through August, though warm temperatures sometimes persist until mid-September. You won't have to bundle up during your trip, and you can enjoy the greenery that returns to the Mile High City every spring.

If you're more likely to spend your time skiing than hiking, however, you'll want to visit Denver during the winter months. From November through February, you can hit the slopes every day of your vacation. The snow also makes for a romantic vacation if you're heading into town with your significant other. Around Christmas time, the downtown area is adorned with thousands of strands of twinkling lights, and you'll find Christmas trees in nearly every store.

If your taste runs toward fine champagne and rooftop views, you'll find plenty of upscale hotels in Denver. The Grand Hyatt Denver is a modern choice. You'll get complimentary June Jacob bath products as well as an in-room 42-inch television and a music docking station. Use the refrigerator to keep your drinks cool while you work out in the on-site gym or lounge by the pool. Rooms and common areas are decorated in muted, neutral tones with artfully placed pops of color.

The Hyatt Regency Denver offers another appealing option. The hotel's minimalist approach to room design will make you feel like you're spending your entire vacation at a rejuvenating spa. The in-room safe is large enough to accommodate your laptop and other electronics, and designer toiletries will help you look and feel your best. Spend at least one evening at Peaks Lounge, an on-site bar that never fails to deliver delicious cocktails.

For guests who like a little nostalgia with their accommodations, book a room or suite at the Hotel Teatro. The towering building features ornate cornices and decorative window surrounds, and the art deco touches will remind you of days gone by. Inside, however, you'll find all the modern amenities you could ever want, from granite-topped accent tables to rainforest shower heads. You can store your golf bag and other luggage in a secure area outside your room if you want to maintain tidy quarters.

While Denver's surrounding environs offer plenty of outdoor adventures, you can keep yourself entertained even if you restrict your vacation activities to the downtown area. Start with the Sports Authority Field at Mile High if you're a football fan. This is the Denver Broncos home stadium, though it also hosts events throughout the rest of the year. You can watch the Denver Outlaws lacrosse team or book tickets for a concert or other performance.

Next, swing by the Denver Capitol Building for a tour. You'll learn about Colorado history and other fun facts. If you're bringing the kids (or if you're fascinated by sea-dwelling creatures), spend an afternoon at the Downtown Aquarium. You can browse the underwater exhibits, grab a bite at the eatery, and watch the Mystic Mermaids show. There are also a few exhibits of land creatures, such as tigers and parrots.

"Educational and Fun"
Score 5.0 / 5

We had not visited Denver for 30 years and were amazed as to how it has changed. We're now motivated to return to continue to update our understanding of all that the city has to offer. We are educators who enjoy visiting local museums as we travel. The Colorado Museum of History is extremely well-thought out for children of all ages. Perhaps we were just lucky but all of the restaurants we ate at were worth returning to on our next visit to the Mile High City.

, from 19-Jul-2014
"Lots to do, difficult to access with traffic."
Score 4.0 / 5

Great restaurants, good variety of shopping. Not easy to drive around. Traffic is horrible.

"Downtown Denver"
Score 4.0 / 5

I've been to Denver a couple times, but on this particular stay we did not explore much as we had quite a packed schedule. We loved being able to stroll back to the hotel after our wedding. There were people out and about downtown and 16th street but it still seemed private. Marlowe's Easter brunch was one of our guest highlights, too.

, from 22-Apr-2014
Score 4.0 / 5

Fun town. I could do with out the protesters marching and being rowdy.

, from 07-Apr-2014

The weather, Downtown (16th street mall), micro breweries and the Denver Museum of Art is a real treasure.

, from 29-Jan-2014

Very clean and well organized.
