Finding a nice, reasonably priced hotel in Lenox is trickier than I was expecting. There are some stunning renovated castles and villas that demand jaw dropping rates, a few chain hotels/motels that don't offer the ambience we were looking for in a Berkshire getaway, and a number of nice-looking but surprisingly expensive B&Bs that could not accommodate more than two to a room. The Cranwell Resort turned out to be a good compromise; we booked a room with two double beds in a converted mansion, Beecher's Cottage, which overlooks the golf course. On arrival, we pulled into the expansive resort, passed the great brown Mansion on a hill, checked in at the registration lobby near the spa, then found the Beechers less than a quarter mile into the well maintained grounds. The Beecher's is a lovely old school "cottage", with a pleasant entrance,a four foot wide front door, and large staircase reaching up its three stories. It's very attractive and comfortable without being fussy or luxurious. Our room was large, plenty of room for three girls to spread out and relax, windows overlooking a small parking area and the golf course beyond. I don't guess the rooms have been renovated in a few decades, but they are relaxing and seem just about right for the Berkshires. We didn't have a chance to use the spa, but we did have Sunday breakfast in the main mansion, which was a standard buffet, nothing special. There is plenty to do within a short drive - the charming town of Lenox is a few minute drive, as is Edith Wharton's The Mount, hiking trails, plenty of restaurants. All in all, very nice hotel, fun getaway location. « less

This was my first stay at Cranwell -- my first trip to the Berkshires for that matter, and it was lovely! The grounds are beautiful and well kept. Our room was clean and nicely decorated. There are a few character flaws - but it's an old building and they weren't distracting at all (screens in windows had a few holes, bathroom wallpaper was peeling a bit) and every single staff person we encountered was helpful and polite and service oriented. (I am often dumfounded by hotels and restaurants that hire people that have no desire to be in the service industry - I'm a stickler for good serivce) The spa was AWESOME. Had a fab massage! Wish I would've had more time for a mani/pedi/ etc etc. I would recommend Cranwell for couples needing a break and for "girl's weekends. I would absolutely stay here again. « less

My girlfriends and I visited the Cranwell for a girls spa weekend to celebrate my birthday. We had the best time! Our rooms were huge and gorgeous! We stayed in the carriage house. The spa was beautiful and had fabulous service! All 4 of us had different services and everyone raved about the friendliness of staff and the oustanding service. The staff was outstanding! The food at the tavern was very good (pub type menu). The grounds are beautiful. I would highly recommend this resort. « less

I spent the day in the spa (outstanding - try the 2 hour Grand Mossaic). Stayed in The Castle. Room was beautiful, the emense black marble bath was awesome. Grounds are beautiful to wander and the golf course looked interesting. All staff were friendly and helpful in registration, spa and restaurants. Not cheap, but it was a nice special treat to relax and refresh my spirit. « less

Testimonials: Why use Hotel Planner?
"Your company has been very useful in narrowing down hotel locations. I like the fact that you give the contact persons information and I'm not having to search for phone numbers to contact them." R.B. - Raleigh, NC
"This is the first time I used your service and I was very satisfied with the software program. It was very user friendly and had so many different options you could use. There was a great selection of hotels to choose from. I have finalized my booking with Liz of Bay Park Hotel and have stopped all other biddings. Thank you again. It made my job a lot easier in finding a place to stay for the group!" J.W. - Monterey, CA
