We booked, had confirmed and paid for our accommodation 6 months in advance. We booked an ocean view room and expected just that, an ocean view. When we arrived at reception we were told that we had been down graded as the hotel was overbooked. We remonstrated with the receptionist and only agreed to a downgrade if they waived their $25.00 per day resort fee. We were sent away and told to come back at 3pm.
We returned at 3pm to be told by a different person at reception that our issue had been sorted out and that we now have the 'ocean view' room that we booked. Upon entering our room we find that our view is of the city. However, if you step out onto the balcony you can see a part of the ocean, the city and the hills behind the city. I then got on to the internet and found that the Hyatt Regency describes our particular room as having a partial ocean view, not the ocean view we paid for:
"Partial Ocean View
Take in majestic Ko'olau Mountain and Honolulu city views within our welcoming accommodations."
Off down stairs to remonstrate again with reception. They were obviously expecting me, but argued that the room we have is what they classify as an 'ocean view'. When I told the chap that their website tells it differently and that I consider it false advertising, he was somewhat taken aback. The chap said that most people 'unrealistically' expect a full ocean view when they book an ocean view room. How silly most of us must be!
We kept our room and to be honest were happy with the view at the end of the day. Family members who did get an ocean view had nothing to look at in the evening except darkness, but we had the city and all its lights and action.
Also, we did not get a king bed, but 2 'double Grand beds'. Where I come from no way were they double beds, they were more like king singles. Our room was a good size though, clean and provided for our requirements. The hotel though, like a lot in Waikiki, is becoming old and dated and should most probably be refurbished in the not too distant future. They need to get rid of the shower over the bath!
I do not like being taken advantage of and that is what I feel the Hyatt did to us. For this reason I will not revisit them, anywhere in the world. I will ensure my travel agent is aware of this issue.
P.S. we ended up having to pay the resort fee. « less

We celebrated our 50th anniversary at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki. We were treated like Royalty. The view from our spacious room was terrific, over the ocean and Diamond Head. Rooms are large and the Regency Club is wonderful. Staff was attentive and helpful. Our stay was everything we dreamed of. « less

I came to Honolulu and stayed at your beautiful hotel. Love the views to the ocean and Waikiki Beach. Great to know that it was close to shops like the ABC Shops and the Hawaiian Cookies store. Spend most evenings by the poolside and watching the view. Staff were friendly and helpful, and I love the atmosphere at your hotel. « less

I love to add this, if you don't have any transportation arranged to your hotel, just check out the outside area of the arrival side, those Speedi Shuttle agents are there to take your order, around 13-14USD per person one way to your Waikiki Hotels Area. Awesome.
We see bell boys when arrive, it's nice to get some help since reception is gonna be on the second floor.
BEWARE of IGNORANCE AGENTS in this hotel. Most of them are so pitiful, not helpful, arrogant, all the worst thing you name them and it's not A LGBT Friendly Hotel as well. That's all I can say for this hotel. It doesn't have to be am amazing experience when check in, but just a simple courtesy and being a nice spirit is more than appreciated. It's not culture barrier, I seen the name tags of agents from different countries they originated from, yes they speak English but one thing missing, A Customer Service Skill. Too bad for Hawaii since that's what the biggest market or income, after ABC Store they have, which is Tourism...
Room: Great toiletries, comfy bed but not pillows, lack of lightning, old and tired room that we have, it's old hotel by the way as you can see around you. Everything else is average and the disgusting thing is, a dead cockroach on top of table near the TV and never been cleaned up, even they have a notice for insect and stuff just near or next to it due to tropical weather is advised this this and that.. Seriously, till the days we check out, that dead cockroach is there still next to the sign, MEANING, this hotel doesn't go any inspection to detail. Health Department must take a peek on this hotel.
We have lots of trouble, from WiFi...so hard to use it, everyday you must ask different PIN number, what a pain in the neck honestly. Noisy room we have, bathroom is awful smelly and no exhaust fan either. Calling housekeeping? Good Luck!. How about Guest Service, you wanna throw the phone to the wall because so many options and very long answering, yada yada yada, oh God, please help me, that's the comment I learn from Telenovela. Poor and it's poor service. Did I call and let them know what happen? What do you think?, of course we did, from their promises to change us the room which never happening , waiting their promises to get a call back which never got one call, and couple agents must ask one from one agent to superior for any request or question we have. Oh boi, this is a painful one. And guess what they told us, due to Japanese Holiday..., wait a minute, say that again please?, I thought I am in Honolulu, Hawaii, I am not in Tokyo or Kyoto, Japan , please see the reality, you can always have excuses but please use your knowledge too. Anyway a disaster , a complete one. I can tell you all those agents names if you want, but what the deal here?, nothing, no advantage because most of them are born that way, it's already become their habits.
There is nothing I am proud about the restaurant or pool bar. It's just average. Surround the area has lots of eatery folks, so please don't you worry.
The only thing that make me feel welcome and put all the sympathy and to correct the problem, LILIE,that's her name, see her name tag, China!, Hyatt, we want you to know this, how grateful you have this person in your payroll, she is the one that make your company image shines. You must recruit this type of person who cares about their customers. LILIE , we want to thank you for all you do, you are such a phenomenal, your personality and your customer service is greatly appreciated. We hope Hyatt will pamper you, if no, this place doesn't belong to you, just to upfront speaking. Normally a big company will only busy taking care those demanding agents rather than to look who are the great ones that help them to move on. LILIE , once again, you are awesome, we thank you for creating that sparks in our heart after all the mess we have during our stay and no one cares not even a Supervisor or Manager has balls to show them self to look after us. Shame!.
And another positively outrageous service that we got, a bell boy, but we don't see his name tag, he helped us to bring our suitcases , not even asking to be given for tips. This is amazing, he thanks us for staying in this Hyatt hotel, he hopes that we would come back to stay and he apologizes if there is anything that doesn't meet our request or requirements. Omigod, he supposed to work in Registration Counter instead of Concierge or Bell Desk. Hyatt, too bad, seems you can't see who is working and who are not!!!. I wish I can ask his name at that time so I can tell the worlds, but I was so busy helping other folks too, but this experience, you think I will forget?, Never!!!.
Ok, back to business, It's famous both of location and the bad customer service. For price?, that's another thing, Over Priced, check updated building around the area for less and better service, promise you, you will find one! « less
