If you’ve gotta be right in the heart of the South Beach scene but you don’t want to max out the credit cards, then you can’t beat the Catalina Hotel & Beach Club. Just across the street from the ocean and only a block away from famous Lincoln Road, this inexpensive, boutique hotel captures all the style and energy of South Beach. “Affordable doesn’t mean that we skimp on comfort or service,” says Alan Lieberman, owner of the South Beach Group hotels. And even the Catalina beds boast the pedigree to back him up. “Every mattress is a Swedish Tempur-pedic, the sheets are Italian Mascioni, and the goose down comforters are from Belgium.” This newly remodeled, historic Art Deco gem perfectly accommodates the budget-minded traveler, who is sophisticated in taste but limited in means. “People come to South Beach to have fun and we make sure they do without emptying their wallets,” Lieberman says. Each evening, the lobby lounge glows with candlelight as guests enjoy free drinks at the nightly cocktail party before heading out for some after-hours action. The Catalina’s concierge ensures that all guests not only have a great hotel experience but a fabulous introduction to Miami as well…which of course includes VIP treatment at all clubs and restaurants. Lieberman has labeled the design of his new venture as “beach contemporary”. All white guest rooms have popping hints of red color and each come equipped with a cutting-edge flat screen TV, iPod docking station, mini-bar, safe, comfy bathrobes and wireless internet for web junkies and workaholics. Complete with a tropical pool, Zen courtyard and the “Spy Lounge” restaurant, the Catalina is quickly becoming the new cheap-chic mecca in the Land of Hip Hospitality. The Catalina Hotel & Beach Club is located at 1732 Collins Avenue, which is lined with South Beach’s eye-catchy shops and palate-pleasing restaurants. Through May 15, 2007 rates are $225 per night and $250 for junior suites, and then $150 per night and $175 for junior suites after May 16, 2007. Room rates include daily complimentary happy hour cocktails, airport shuttle and beach lounge chairs.
