Stayed here for two nights on business in May. This hotel is located in Centertown, right next to the Museum of Nature, and a pleasant walk to many different restaurants and pubs.
There is no free parking here. You have the option of parking up the street for $12 a day, or using the underground parking at the hotel for $18 a day. As well, the street the hotel lobby is on is a one way street, so be prepared to circle if you miss it.
The rooms have a modern look, with a 40" flatscreen tv, and are very functional. One thing that stood out to me was the pillow menu. You have a selection of about 6 different types of pillows, with descriptions of which ones are on your bed and which ones you can request. I've never seen this before, and it was very welcome.
The hot breakfast was really good (eggs, sausage, bacon etc), with Starbucks coffee to boot. I recommend the fair trade blend :) Plenty of televisions, newspapers, and sunlight for you while you eat as well. « less

This hotel is well located in downtown Ottawa. The accomodation was very good as I have come to expect from best Western. But I was extremely impressed with the service at check in. When the clerk realized I was in town for a funeral she gave me a special bereavement rate. Her thoughtfulness brought some light into a gloomy day. « less

I travel a lot and I find that the Best Western brand is a hit and miss. I try to stay away from the BW if they are not a Plus or a Premium. This BW Plus is a really nice one located just north of the 417 so easy to get to. The room I was in was nicely renovated with a nice bathroom and a huge 52" HD flat screen which was awesome for watching the hockey game. I had a function at the Canadian Museum of Nature which is less than a 2 minute walk. I enjoyed my stay here. « less

We decided to spend two nights here with the kids and as it was our second time at this hotel, we mostly knew what to expect. We specifically chose an executive suite (king bedroom + sofabed in other room), as this is most convenient for us.
On check-in, the young man seemed quite confused, and explained to me that we had been upgraded. How this was possible if we had already chosen the highest room category at the highest price was not clear to me. He then went on about how they have suites and executive suites and we had been given an executive suite. Yes, but that is what we had booked.... He did charge us the going rate of the day, which was a few dollars lower than the rate we had booked at, but did not see the point in charging us the lower queen suite rate and actually providing the upgrade. No use in continuing that discussion, but that made for a confusing start to our weekend. (Yes, I know upgrades are not always available, and so I booked what we needed.)
The room on the eighth floor was very nice, clean, comfortable, but seemed to have been recently wallpapered (?) as there was a very strong chemical smell.
Everything else was very nice - even the sofabed the kids slept on was a particularly nice design that did not have extra metal bits poking through.
The breakfast area had been expanded to about four times its previous size, which was a great improvement over last time. The food offered is certainly decent and ok for a few days.
The only other drawback is that the hotel no longer offers free parking. That privilege will set you back $18 now, which we found quite steep. On weekends there should be no major problem finding a spot on one of the nearby streets, especially if you use your car during the daytime to go sightseeing. « less

Dear Okazon69,
Firstly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to post your experience on Trip Advisor. Your comments are very much appreciated. We thank you as well for returning to us!
Secondly, I was troubled to hear that you had complications regarding your room selection at the time of check in. It was very clear by your comments that you knew exactly what you wanted to book at the time of your reservation and that consistancy was not mirrored at the time of check in. For that I'm sorry. Hopefully the rest of your weekend experience in Ottawa was seamless. With regards to the parking, we have always charged for parking however guests who booked the CAA rate; up until January 1st 2013 had parking included in their rate. In lieu of no longer offering parking complimentary with this rate we now offer our guests who book the CAA/AAA rate 1000 bonus Best Western Rewards points per night.
I would welcome an opportunity to discuss your experience further at your convenience. Please feel free to contact me directly by phone at 613.288.0986 or by email at andrew@victoriapark.com.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the Best Western PLUS Victoria Park Suites on your third visit to our Nation's Capital!
Yours in hospitality, Andrew Busing Front Office Manager.
