A visit to Ottawa Recapped

Known for its scenic views and excellent architecture, Ottawa's skyline makes an interesting piece of work as features architecture that is marked by Picturesque and Romantic styles. Truly, stepping into Ottawa seems like one is stepping back into time or at least a different age. Art lovers will certainly love Ottawa, although it may not exactly be like Paris, but art in Ottawa is unique and it extends outside the traditional four walls of a museum. For instance, the Maman statue located outside the National Gallery of Canada draws in a regular crowd for being a rather gigantic bronze spider out and about. Other museums that have caught the attention of many include the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, the Canadian Museum of Civilization, and the Canadian War Museum. Although art is admittedly one of the features of Ottawa, it is also an excellent place to shop. When timed correctly, any visit to Ottawa can be made extra special by attending the Winterlude festival, which is the largest festival in Canada, Ottawa International Jazz Festival, Canadian Tulip Festival, Folk Music Festival, and Fringe Festival.

Stephen Harper, a Canadian Politician was right when he said 'If Ottawa giveth, then Ottawa can taketh away''

Parliament and the Changing of the Guard great to see for the pageantry and the historyByward Market a great place to visit...great food, shopping and good chance to run into street performersLady Dive Tours provide a great way to see the city with it's hop-on, hop-off tours.Personal favorite is the Museum of History in Gatineau, with the Aviation Museum next bestFor something unique and different, visit the Diefenbunker about 30 minutes west of the city...it was Canada's governmental shelter in the event of a nuclear attack during the height of the cold war.

"So Much to Offer"
Score 4.0 / 5

The city has so much to offer from shopping at Rideau Centre and the Byward Market to site seeing. The light show at Parliament Hill was quite different and good to see. The National War Museum was excellent for those liking history. We took a tour of the Rideau Canal which was wonderful and informative. The parks in Gatineau were beautiful, clean and safe. The trails were very busy with walkers and cyclists. From the tour operators to the hotel staff and general public, everyone was very friendly. I had only to pull out my "tourist" map to look at and someone would be offering to help me find where I wanted to go.

Sandra M., from 21-Jul-2014
"Expensive Country"
Score 5.0 / 5

I did not go to Ottawa to tour the city, but to study music at Christ Church Cathedral. I did enjoy eating at several fine restaurants while there. One place called Burrito Gringo made everything fresh everyday, not owning a freezer or microwave. Gas is very high in Canada, and groceries were also a bit expensive.
