During a visit to Ottawa, you can enjoy a relaxing atmosphere in beautiful natural surroundings. The city has the highest standards of living in Canada and boasts a very low unemployment rate, which makes it a great place to visit.

When Can I Score a Great Hotel Deal?

If you're trying to save on lodging, avoid Ottawa between March and May. The springtime offers pleasant temperatures and blooming flowers around the city, so it's a nice time to visit but hotel rooms are much more expensive. You'll also see the prices increase during the summer months. The temperatures regularly drop below freezing during the winter, but if you can brave the cold, you'll get a great deal on a room.

During the fall, the average temperatures range between the low 40s and the high 60s, so the weather is nicer. You can score a pretty good price on a hotel room, although the rates go up during September when Ottawa hosts the CityFolk Festival and the Ottawa International Animation Festival.

Truly, stepping into Ottawa seems like one is stepping back into time or at least a different age. Art lovers will certainly love Ottawa, although it may not exactly be like Paris, but art in Ottawa is unique and it extends outside the traditional four walls of a museum. The city has so much to offer from shopping at Rideau Centre and the Byward Market to site seeing. The light show at Parliament Hill was quite different and good to see. The National War Museum was excellent for those liking history. We took a tour of the Rideau Canal which was wonderful and informative. The parks in Gatineau were beautiful, clean and safe. The trails were very busy with walkers and cyclists. From the tour operators to the hotel staff and general public, everyone was very friendly. I had only to pull out my "tourist" map to look at and someone would be offering to help me find where I wanted to go.

I did not go to Ottawa to tour the city, but to study music at Christ Church Cathedral. I did enjoy eating at several fine restaurants while there. One place called Burrito Gringo made everything fresh everyday, not owning a freezer or microwave. Gas is very high in Canada, and groceries were also a bit expensive.
