We chose this location as it was very convenient for traveling to our daughter's apartment. I called ahead to make sure it wasn't still under construction, which several reviewers had mentioned. We found the room to be somewhat redone and the bed was very comfortable and clean. However, the walls were marred and badly in need of painting, and the TV reception was awful. The lobby area carpeting was worn and in need of cleaning. We were told we would have a fridge and there wasn't one available. None of the ice machines worked and the main elevator in the lobby was broken for our entire 2 day stay. On the plus side the gentleman at the desk was very apologetic and went out of his way to compensate us for the inconveniences. We have stayed at 3 star hotels that were much nicer than this one, but the price was quite reasonable. If you're very budget conscious and just want to hang out in the room, then it was OK. « less

I stayed there for two nights. The room was comfortable. The breakfast was OK, pretty much what is to be expected. The thing I did not like was that the fitness center was not operational. However, that could be temporary just when I happened to be there. I cannot say that I had any major inconvenience. « less

This past weekend we stayed here after booking this hotel through Travelocity as a Top Secret Deal, who classified the hotel as a 3 star hotel. The hotel's was not up to a three star standard. Here are my issues: Upon arrival, the hotel smelled very strongly of marijuana. The management should have picked up on that and immediately removed those guests from the hotel. The carpets, ceiling tiles, and walls were dirty. It looked like an animal had peed on the floor in several spots, the ceiling tiles were dusty and had holes, and the wall paper was peeling off, had food stains, and was scuffed up. The guest room doors had different room number signs, some nice looking some cheap stickers. One of the guest room doors also had its handle removed leaving a huge hole in the door. You could sew in through it and it showed a room that looked like a tornado hit it: torn up curtains, flipped mattress, stuff all over the place, it looked like someone through a party and trashed the place. In the room I stayed in, the curtain was partially torn down, the toilet would randomly run, the shower was clogged and didn't properly drain. Each morning that we had the continental breakfast, there was a different excuse as t. why the waffle maker was turned off early. The fitness center was closed and messy from the outside.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and I feel the upper management of Clarion should come in and see what is going on. « less

Dear KnC0930,
Thank you for your recent review. I am sorry you were not happy with your recent stay, I wish that this was brought to my attention while you were here so we could have corrected the issues. We have been focusing on our deep cleaning project on the guest rooms and are now going to move to the corridor areas. If you are in Pittsburgh in the near future we would hope you give us another chance.
Sincerely,

This is the second time I’ve stayed here. We stayed here for many days, and had many friends (in town for the same event) stay here as well.
First, the good:
1. The included breakfast is above average. You get sausages, sometimes bacon, cereal and milk is available, bagels and toast, two types of juice and coffee. The dining area is large so you’re sure to find a table even if the hotel is busy. 2. The front desk staff is friendly. 3. You can not beat the price of the stay here.
Now, the bad:
1. There was no wi-fi for the durataion of our stay. I believe they just do not have a wireless network capable of serving wi-fi for all guests and in all areas of the hotel . You would call the front desk and they were unable to help. There is a business center with one computer in it so that you could use that if you really needed to. 2. Only one of the two elevators was working and it is very slow. 3. Friends complained about their room smelling bad and had to be moved to a different room. 4. Friends complained about unclean sheets. 5. Spotty room cleaning service. (Our toilet paper wasn’t always replenished. Not convinced they even vacuumed our room daily, or even washed our bathtub.) 6. Entire hotel appears to be run-down, you can hear your neighbours, and there was no fan in our bathroom. 7. T.V. has a lot of fuzzy channels. (Friend’s t.v. was the same.) 8. Water pressure and/or hot water may not be available, for some reason, late at night. 9. Hotel offers no room service (but there are vending and ice machines available). I don’t think I will stay here again and I can not recommend it, but if the “negatives” are not that important to you – it may be worth the low price and the above average breakfast. « less

Thank you for your recent review. I appreciate you writing both the positive and negatives. We are trying to fix the issues that we are currently having at the property. Regarding the internet and cable we have our vendor coming out tomorrow to hopefully resolve these issues. I have also been working with our housekeeping staff to improve on the cleaniness of the rooms. If your are in Pittsburgh in the future we would be like for you to give us another chance!

This is second time I was dumb enough to use travelocity and use their top secret hotels and got this hotel. First, there no restaurant for dinner,The main elevator was broken the entire time I was there with no repairman within a hundred miles of that elevator. The ice makers broken on every floor but the 4th. The Air conditioner would not cool down the room. The fitness room was pathetic, two ten year old tread mills,no weghts. The bathroom had dirty calk, stains on the wall. The only bar is a cash bar that was run like a lemonade stand for three hours only with really limited and poor beer selections. Clarion needs to know just how poorly this hotel is maintained. My reccomendation is find another hotel, unless you have a dirty fetish! « less

Dear Bob W,
Thank you for your recent review. I do apoligize you were not happy with your recent stay at the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center. We have a new ice machine on the 1st floor that was installed on April 18th 2013. The parts for the 2nd and 3rd floor ice machines have been ordered. The bar is open daily from 5pm-9pm and if we are busy we stay open later. We are currently in negotiation for a franchise for the restaurant. We have finally received the parts needed to repair the elevator and should be up and running soon. We are making the neccesary improvement at our property for guest satisfaction. If you are in the Pittsburgh Area in the future we hope you will stay with us!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Yocum General Manager
