Our group, consisting of four girlfriends, stayed at the Royal Sonesta May 16-19, 2013. This hotel is beautiful and the staff is great. It's traditional decor, very clean, very comfortable. The room's aren't overly spacious but they're not too small either, and the bathroom was fine. It's a little noisy as it's right on Bourbon, and one of our rooms (3196) was poolside, which was a little bit rowdy but fun. We loved our room's location because we could walk right out to the pool and go back and forth easily without having to go through the halls or use the elevator. They have a grill and an outside bar at the pool, which closes fairly early, 6 or 7 in the evening. The pool overlooks the courtyard,which is very pretty. The jazz bar (Mayfield's) at the hotel is great. We didn't get to eat at the restaurant (Revolution) but had many recommendations to--we just couldn't fit it in. If you want to be near the French Quarter, I would definitely recommend Royal Sonesta. « less

In the center of the famous and crazy French Quarter the Royal Sonesta is a grand old hotel. Very traditional with the nicest, most accommodating staff one could ever encounter. Rooms are spacious and well furnished and comfortable.
The nights can be a bit noisy due to the proximity of the circus known as Bourbon St. All the well regarded and famous Cajun Restaurants are within easy walking distance. Cafe Du Monde just 10 mins walk.
The hotel has a very good Jazz Club on the lobby level with excellent performers seven nights per week. No cover and just a one drink minimum.
Just one note of caution to travelers that want a little quiet at night, opt for an inner courtyard room. They are not completely quiet but much better than a street room. « less
