A nice Hotel with even nicer personel very near to Powell Street and all the shopping there and a end turn for the famous cable cars. The personel at the hotel are all invited here to a mid summer celebration at our place in Sweden! And next to the lobby there's a nice restaurant with a mediterrian theme. Yummie! « less

I spent the weekend in San Francisco and picked this hotel off Priceline. I had read the reviews about how friendly the staff was and it is true. In every encounter with the staff they were unfailingly friendly and helpful. We actually arrived about 4 hours before check in time and assumed we would leave our bags with the bellman and check in later. The front desk gave a room early.
The hotel is an older one, but is in very good shape. By that I mean everything is freshly painted and very clean. The room with a king bed was small, but we didn't come to spend the day in the room. The bed was very comfortable and we slept very well. There is street noise (we were on the 8th floor with windows open) but it seemed to lessen considerably after about 10:30 and didn't disturb our sleep. Another interesting thing was that instead of the typical small coffee pot and two paper cups, this room had a Keurig coffee maker with real mugs. When we asked for additional coffee pods, we were given several. The tv had basic cable with about 20 stations. No HBO, etc or even ESPN.
The hotel is really conveniently located, just off Market St. Right next to Bloomingdale's and the mall with Nordstrom's and other high end stores with a food court that will put the one in your home mall to shame.
If you are looking for a big room with lots of closet space, this isn't it. If you want a comfortable, clean place to crash after spending the day seeing the sights, consider this. « less

Stayed at The Pickwick for a week with my husband and had a very nice stay. The hotel is older with a lot of character and is in a great location! The rooms were very very small with it being difficult to get around the bed. The cabinet door that held the mini fridge could not even be opened but had to be unhinged and removed to access the refrigerator.. That is how small the rooms are. If not for the size of the room, I would have given 4 stars. The rooms were aged but clean, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was decent, and the nearby food was great. The restaurant/ bar in the lobby had good food and the cafe right next door had fresh squeezed juices and a great breakfast selection. There is shopping everywhere and we had a great stay. The staff was very attentive and friendly and helped very much with explaining the bus routes etc to help us get around the city cheaply. This hotel was nice and served its purpose but was definitely not luxury. It was an average hotel so I gave it an average score. « less

I stayed at the Pickwick hotel with my boyfriend and I for 3 nights. It was small and quaint but cute & cozy at the same time. Very clean and no real complaints. Good location relative to Market street where all the shops are and can grab a cab to anywhere in San Francisco. Nothing grandiose but perfect for the price and area, everything else in the area is around $400 a night and if you dont want to spend so much i recommend staying.Definitely clean & comfortable, had a victorian meets modern edge to it which was cute. Room tip- i liked the second floor didn't have to take elevators and had a decent view of the SF Chronical & streets. « less

Had a 9 night stay at the Pickwick Hotel. Location of course is its best feature being a number of metres from downtown and the Westfield Mall.
The room quality can vary markedly from one room to the next. I had some issues with the room heater which stopped so had to do a room change. Also the hot water tap had to be run for about 10 minutes to get hot water which the hotel blamed on the cooler weather! The first room offered was an inferior small room with limited storage. Eventually provided with one of their upgraded rooms which provided a much better quality of accommodation.
Overall the room was quite tidy, and met my needs. The room was on the street side on the 6th floor but didn't have any real issues with outside noise.
Being an older style boutique hotel, the hotel has a range of room types of different sizes, views, and decor styles so its a bit of luck as to whether you get one of the better rooms.
I didn't find the front desk staff overly helpful or friendly, which isn't a big issue for me anyway.
The free wifi worked most of the time, but a couple of days wouldn't work at all which I assume was because the hotel was full and was over loaded by the extra demand.
