Wednesday I completed a 3 night stay at The Alexander, and to summarize my experience in one word…amazing. I live locally here in South Florida, but needed a ‘get away’ time to unwind, local to my office in Coconut Grove where I could combine both business and pleasure. I went online about 6 weeks ago to look for a suitable venue for my retreat, and read many stellar reviews of the Alexander, along with some rather scathing negative reviews also posted on the web. I contacted their reservations department via email and corresponded with Edlyn who was fantastic. I told her that I was looking for an updated room, and she assured me that she would take care of me. I needed to move up my arrival date by a day, and again she took care of me. I told her that I was bringing someone special with me, and she told me that she would personally choose my suite.
I checked in about 5:30 AM Monday morning. Regina was at the front desk and the check in process was quick and painless. She had my bags sent up to 1414 which was a lovely suite, but I was looking for something with a king sized bed. I called down to her and she suggested that I look at 1402, which I did, and it was PERFECT. What a beautiful room and amazing view.
Monday evening my companion and I had dinner at the No Name Lounge. Carmine was our waiter and did a fantastic job with our drinks, service and conversation. We even spoke about sports since the Miami Heat game was on the television. Also, the food was excellent.
Wednesday morning I spoke with Linda at the front desk re: a late checkout and she complied without any hesitation, which I thoroughly thanked her for.
I have stayed at many luxurious hotels across the country and around the world and I would have to rate The Alexander in the top 5 of all of those. The combination of location, room size and quality, view, staff enthusiasm and friendliness made me immediately feel at home, and not just a faceless number. Whoever is in charge of their personnel selection and training in customer service should be highly commended. They are doing a tremendous job. Along with the above-named employees, everyone else on the team who I interacted with, from bellmen to your Concierge to your housekeeping staff were tremendous.
In closing please keep up the great work as I plan on coming back again and again. « less

My husband and I stayed here for a week vacation. I have stayed at numerous luxury hotels (including the Fontainebleau) and this was just as nice as any of them. We have traveled to Miami Beach several times and usually stay with a friend in a luxury condo on the beach. However, this time we were taking our 15mth old son and needed our own hotel room. We chose not to stay at the Fontainebleau or Eden Roc because we felt they were not as family friendly for a little toddler, we wanted something quiet and relaxing. I had stayed at The Alexander years ago with my mom and sister, so I decided to try it again. The Alexander was perfect because it offered us a full scale apartment, they provided us with an actual crib not a pack n play (bumper included), high chair, full kitchen, 2 bedrooms so my son had his own room (he slept amazing!). It was just what we needed especially when traveling with a small child. The apartment was beautiful, it was modern, updated, and had an amazing view from the 14th floor. All the staff were so nice and hospitable, we had never received such hospitality from another hotel before, even my husband noticed it. Paul at the front desk greeted us when we arrived and couldn't have been nicer. The pool was great, the beach is amazing, Shula's was excellent (order the lobster mashed potatoes, they are unbelievable). I know some people complain about "out-dated" rooms, if you ask for a renovated one they will accomodate your request. When I made my reservation with Hillary, I requested a renovated one with an excellent view. She made the notations and sure enough when we checked-in that was what we got. We even had problems with the tub/shower draining and they fixed it with absolutely no problems. We couldn't have asked for a better vacation, the weather was amazing and The Alexander was great. If you're looking for a family-friendly place that is low-key this is the place. We love it so much that we are already thinking of when we can go back next year, we've even discussed buying an apartment to visit every year!
