"It was awesome!"
Overall Score5.0/ 5
My husband had to have surgery at a downtown hospital in the middle of a major snowstorm and home was too far to drive to in bad weather. It was so great to stay at a friendly, comfortable hotel that was close in case we were needed at the hospital.

"Extremely poor managed staff and filthy dirty Hotel."
Overall Score1.0/ 5
Marriott should take their name off this hotel, it does not represent the brand. Hotel was filthy. Staff was scarce and poorly trained. 1. Check in. No manager in sight. Two lines, one for virtual check in and one for on site check in. Three employees working the virtual check in line. It went very fast, since they are already checked in they just hand over keys. The other check in line is 60 plus guests long. One person working this line. That person went on break and no one was working this line. If you tried to go to a virtual check in clerk they advised you are in the wrong line. 2. Room reservation. I booked and paid for two rooms on one reservation in my name. One room checked in ahead of me. When I checked in they would not let me know where my party was and would not confirm that our rooms would be close. Its my reservation, my confirmation number. 3. Room 1709. Shower curtain was filthy, brown smears all over it. There was some kind of yellow goo sprayed all over the wall in the bathroom, just gross. 5. The Marriott cards for age outside the inside bar. I didnt have and ID and they were not going to let me in. After lots of back and forth the bouncer let me in if we flipped him a $20. My 30 year old son paid him. I am in my 60's. This was just a money grab from the employees. Marriott employees should not hustle the guests. 6. New Years eve party. Prepaid $100 each and you needed a wrist band. Our party was there for a wedding so we had a preset number and prepaid for about 30 guests to this party. $3000 for a cocktail only New Years eve party. They miscounted the wrist bands by one and wouldn't let one of the guests in. They made THE ENTIRE PARTY get up from their tables and come back out to the entrance to be recounted. We lost our tables. Humiliating. The Marriot employees decided thay would let us pay for an additional wrist band at "door " price of $200. Another example of the Marriot employees hustling us. 7. We are there for a Wedding on Ney Years Day. Wedding is at 5. Its on the 74th floor and there are glass elevators to get up to the top. Around one I went up to take a peak at the room. First thing I noticed is someone had thrown up in the elevator and it smelled very bad. It was also splashed up on the glass. Next was the room. .. There had been a large New Years Eve party in the room the noght before and the room was FILTY. Garbage, piles of dirty linens, trash, old New Years eve decor. There was tables and bar stools everywhere from the party last night. We mobilized our guests and cleaned the room. One of the bridesmaids vacuumed the entire carpeted space, it took three hours. There where buckets of stinking water and shrimp tails. The wood floors were FILTY. They never got washed just swept and we kind of stuck to them all night. The guests set up the tables, put tableclothes on the cap tables and dining tables. Setup two potable bars for the cocktail hour. Set up 100 chairs. I could go on and on. We worked for hours to get that room presentable. Another guest went to the front desk to inform them of the vomit in the elevator. Guess what? No one ever cleaned it up, when we came back for the wedding the staff person running the private elevator said " she has a nose like a hound dog and didnt smell it" You can literally SEE it splashed up on the glass. It was disgusting. You have NO STAFF. If you can not turn a room dont book events that closed together. Dont complain to the guests that are cleaning your hotel that you have been working all night. 8. Dinner service was sloppy, completely untrained on how to serve a table. Set a plate.. just bad. Not Marriot quality. 9. Trying to leave. This was also a nighmare. Called down to valet to ask for my car. They advise I can not have my car because my hotel bill is unpaid. My hotel bill was prepaid last June. The hotel took a credit card at check in for any room charges. Calling Valet the phone rings for about five m in prior to them answering. Same for the hotel, so I have to call down to the hotel and ask for them to process $100 is room changes so I can get me car. They say that they did. Ok, So I call back to Valet and ask for my car, another long wait. They say the room is not paid. I call back to the hotel, another long time to get them to pick up and they say they are paid. Call back to valet, they day its not paid and I have to get a receipt from the hotel and come down with my drivers lic to get mey car. I call back to the hotel and it just rings and rings. Finally I call the outside number and get to the hotel that way and someone picks up. They say they will send me an email with my receipt, I confirm with them my email address. they have sent me text paid receipts the night prior and emails prior. they advise they think my email is "[email protected]" and send it there. Really? Finally get a copy of the receipt, take it down to valet to get the car. This is a nightmare! FYI, when I went to valet it was very slow. Lots of employees just standing around, not one other guest in sight. Same and the front desk, no other guests around. I dont know why they dont answer the phone or who has trained these employee's. Fyi, the other room on my reservation and another guest I spoke with, called down to valet and sked for the car, they got no questions, no hassel, no problem. Valet was just added to the room LIKE EVERY OTHER TIME I EVER SYAYED AT A MARRIOTT. 10. Room charges. The "market place" added changes to the room that are not mine. I have to go back and fight those with them today. I couldnt fight them at the hotel because if I didnt pay them the Valet would not give me my car.

Overall Score2.0/ 5
This is the second time we have stayed here for a wedding and the first time was four years ago, it wasn't too bad but this time takes the cake. The rooms have not been updated, poor lighting, had a hard time putting my make up on. The bar was closed, the restuarant was closed. I get it's Covid and might not have the staff right now but don't charge me for amentities you can't deliver. AND they took our credit card again and we prepaid. It is still pending being processed again. Just done with them.

"Beautiful location and views."
Overall Score4.0/ 5
We checked in here for one night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We loved the location. Was a bit surprised by the characters in and out of the hotel once the sun went down. The people in the room next to us were very loud initially and we heard screaming on another floor. Fortunately when we went to bed we didn't hear anything. The bed and pillows were not super comfortable and the hallway was very hot in the hotel. Also, the vending machine was completely out of beverages. The room was comfortable as far as temp goes and shower pressure. Not sure for the price of one night that the hotel is as classy as it should be. Would maybe stay again. Parking is very expensive. Should be included in the hotel stay for free. Valet was closed and a security guard told us to wear a mask (we are both fully vaccinated and the outside security guard said we didn't have to). Minor annoyance.

I googled Marriot reservation and made reservation with an agent who knows every thing about the hotel I booked for my guest for two days and he asked me my credit card for confirm and I told him about my Bonvoy membership he told me I got every thing taken care off my guest out of the country also a Bonvoy member we talked at the hotel to make sure that we get the the point we were told that we were booked by third party we have no Idea any body and she couldn't help us left out to dry so no credit for two night at Marriot hotel in Detroit went for the birds.

It was an enjoyable stay. Heard music coming through walls some mornings and could hear people in the hallway at night. Room was lacking in amenities, no coffee or tea, WiFi was extra $, most of the stores in the hotel lobby closed all weekend. Easy check in and out, helpful staff, good location. Clean and comfortable room. Overall positive experience.

When we were checking in, the bell boy had accidentally dropped a fruit plate we had bought and offered to bring us a replacement. Fresh fruits, fancy water bottles and granola bars were promptly delivered to our room with a handwritten apology. Now that's going above and beyond for customer service. I will be sure to stay at the Detroit Marriott again next time I am in Detroit.
