Property Description
Once inside the iron gate, the circular drive, lined with lilac bushes reveals this elegant 1920s white-pillared Georgian mansion. It is situated on a 6 acre country estate across the road from a golf and tennis club one-half mile from the historic town of Lee and about 3 miles from Stockbridge. The inn's spacious public rooms are furnished with antiques and antique reproductions. The 11 guest accommodations are uniquely decorated and luxuriously appointed. From the screened porch look beyond the heated swimming pool to the lawns, towering trees and gardens. This is tranquility itself—a relaxing place to rejuvenate while pampered with attentive service, gourmet candlelit breakfasts, and wine and cheese served each afternoon. Explore Tanglewood, theater, dance, Norman Rockwell Museum, golf, tennis, hiking, swimming, boating, skiing, antiquing, shopping and other natural and cultural wonders of the Berkshires, or linger at the inn by a roaring fire, rest in a hammock for two under an old apple tree, or stroll the perennial gardens.
The Inn is furnished in a comfortably elegant style. From the central foyer of the Main House a curved staircase leads upstairs to five uniquely decorated queen bedded rooms and three luxurious king bedded suites furnished with antiques and reproductions. Adjacent to the Main House is the Carriage House containing three units - two elegant king bedded suites and a two bedroom "cottage" with its own living room, kitchen, dining area, bathroom with whirlpool tub and deck overlooking the Berkshire Hills. Each accommodation has a private bath, CD player, fireplace , central air-conditioning and cable TV. Many of the rooms have a whirlpool tub for two, TV/VCR/DVD, wet bar with refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. One room even boasts a large steam shower, while another has a large in room soaking tub. Four of the king bedded suites also have their own private furnished outdoor space – a balcony or patio. The inn has a wifi wireless network to allow connection to the internet from each room. There is an assortment of special touches in each guest room including luxurious robes, hair dryer, fresh flowers, brandy and chocolates.
Applegate is a four season retreat in the heart of the Berkshires. It has been said in describing the Berkshires, Athat nature sets the stage and culture steals the show@. The Town of Lee is in the middle of everything that is happening in the Berkshires and there is certainly something for every person at every season. The Norman Rockwell Museum is a wonderful venue and hosts 3 million visitors each year. Or would you rather picnic at Tanglewood and listen to the Boston Symphony Orchestra or watch dance at Jacobs Pillow. There are numerous theaters, jazz clubs and fine art and crafts experiences abound. The Clark Institute and Mass MOCA are world class art museums. Of course there are wonderful outdoor things to do as well - hiking, boating, swimming, fishing, bicycling, golf, tennis, downhill and cross country skiing and snow shoeing. Shopping at boutiques, outlet stores and antique stores are also activities enjoyed by Applegate guests.
Enjoy golf and tennis at the Greenock Country Club right across the road from Applegate. Return for a swim in our heated pool or continue into town to enjoy the town private beach on Laurel Lake. After an active day, relax and enjoy dinner at one of the fine Berkshire restaurants. The Berkshires is a mecca for fine dining experiences with many diverse restaurants in the area.
