'More in thought than in action has English, as a language, become the leader of the world, and there needs to be no denying that. So, let us use our language without dilution or subversion, and she will reward us faith.,
Peter Taylor, one of the best known faces of the BBC in the latter half of the 20th century in England, was a staunch supporter of English language and its frolics. While his views may not be agreeable to one and all, their sincerity and motives need not be questioned at any point of time.
That he was born in Scarborough “ a quaint, quiet and cosy town on the coast of North Yorkshire “ tells us a lot about his way of thinking and the way his personality “ the one that the whole nation grew so fond of “ was shaped up by the conditions that he lived in.
Scarborough, much like any other English town, has taken the backseat in the larger scheme of things, allowing things to happen to it, rather than taking the charge and making things happen by itself. And that strategy, quite succinctly, has stood it in good stead, if one is to judge the town by the sheer level of positive repute it holds in the world at large. While talking about repute, in this context, we will solely be referring to the repute in relation with tourism potential, and nothing much else.
The best feature of Scarborough, despite being a sea town, however, comes in the form of a promontory. This narrow, rocky and hilly part of the town protrudes strangely eastwards, right into the North Sea, creating an effect of contrast “ the likes of which you would struggle to find elsewhere in the world. Many ruins of ancient buildings and sites further make Scarborough a destination well-worth one's time.
Therefore, we would urge our ardent readers and wanderers to give Scarborough a serious thought. Perhaps, to push our case, this guide to Scarborough hotels can be of some help!
