"Westin quality does not disappoint in downtown."
Overall Score3.5/ 5
The Westin is a always a great choice of a brand, that I've found to be especially popular with business groups, meetings and events. This particular Westin has a great location right in downtown
, that is a quick walk away from both Pike Place market
and Seattle Center
/the Space Needle
. The hotel's style is straightforward and dignified and makes it easy to create a focused atmosphere if your group is there for business and has a job to do. Keep in mind, this is a large property about 900 rooms with a very large lobby and meeting spaces to match, so it might not be the best choice for any group that will get overwhelmed easily (lots of kids, elderly, foreign, or anything else) when there are small, boutique properties around that provide a cozier experience. If the Westin is indeed the type of property you are looking for, this one will not disappoint with service or quality of accommodations. The rooms are spacious and feature floor to ceiling windows that offer a fantastic view. They are also slightly curved (the whole hotel is built as two cylindrical towers) which I thought added an unexpectedly cool dynamic. The meeting spaces match the dynamic of the hotel and can be molded to host any type of event you could have a need for. Their large size also allows for some useful, business oriented amenities such as on on site FedEx center. In general, I would recommend this hotel to any group but would really feel the most inspired to send businesses their way for a excellent and professional experience.

"Nice hotel, terrible planning and organization!"
Overall Score2.0/ 5
While the Westin offered some of the most competitive pricing of downtown Seattle hotels during my wedding week, the planning process for this room block made the booking totally not worth it. The contract language was opaque and I had to make repeated phone calls and emails to negotiate and fix it. Once we'd settled on the terms, the planning website the hotel set up was poorly built and slow from my end. From my guests' end, it told them (falsely) that no rooms were available if they tried to book beyond the contracted dates. When I started directing guests to call the hotel rather than use the website, the customer service agents were miffed and asked the guests to go to the website. My father in law, whose English is not great, ended up staying at a completely different hotel because the booking process was so confusing. The Westin booking staff also failed to cancel reservations that they said they would over the phone and email and at one point moved my grandparents to a different hotel room for only one night of their stay. While these issues were eventually resolved through persistence in calling and emailing the staff, the amount of time the Westin took out of my wedding planning made working with the hotel not worth it. Yes, the rooms and facilities are nice and you can't beat the location, but it's not worth the headache.
