Rates shown are nightly rates before taxes and do not necessarily reflect all Augusta, GA discounts available. The chart reflects the cheapest Augusta hotel for each day and each star rating category.

Georgia's third-largest city and second-largest metro area, Augusta was named after Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, mother to Great Britain's King George III. Prior to European settlement, the area was inhabited by native tribes who used the Savannah River for water, food, and transportation. The site attracted European settlers for the same reasons, and by 1785, Augusta was serving as Georgia's capital city for a brief time. Augusta also played major roles in the Reconstruction and Civil Rights eras.

Today, the city retains its historic downtown district. It's also best known for hosting The Masters golf tournament every spring. Whatever your reason for visiting Augusta, it's important to find the right hotel that allows you to enjoy everything this wonderful city has to offer.

When to Visit Augusta, GA

Augusta experiences four distinct seasons, but keep in mind that humidity can be high, especially during the summer months. June, July, and August tend to see highs in the low 90s, but throw in that extra humidity, and your stroll around the city can feel unbearably hot. Augusta also experiences a lot of rainfall during the summer, especially during August, so bring an umbrella if you plan to brave the heat.

April and May are the most pleasant months for a visit. Average temperatures hover around 80 degrees and rain is less likely, giving you an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. Hotel rates are generally higher, though, especially when The Masters tournament comes to town, so keep an eye out for important events that can drive up prices.

If you prefer to travel in the fall, the heat starts tapering off in September, and the weather remains relatively pleasant through November. Hotel rates tend to be lower during these months, giving you the best chance to save a few bucks.

Winters in Augusta, Georgia, are cold and wet. The average snowfall in the city is only one inch per year, but Augusta experiences a lot of rain, especially from January to March. Dress in layers and bring an umbrella if you're traveling during this time. The upside to the poor winter weather, however, is reduced hotel rates, which is great when you're trying to stick to a budget.
