Lake Placid was home to the 1980 Winter Olympics. In 2023, Lake Placid will be hosting the World University Games featuring the best winter sports athletes in on the planet. The Olympic Centre is currently under renovation and due to be completed December 2021. Other Olympic venues include the Ski Jumping complex with public zip lines that parallel the jumps, a glass elevator to go to the top of the jumps, Mt. VanHoevenberg which is host to Nordic skiing and biathlon events, public cross-country skiing, longest mountain coaster in the US; Cliffside Coaster, ice skating on the Olympic Oval, and Whiteface Mountain boasting the highest vertical drop in Eastern North America for great skiing and snowboarding. Summer and Fall activities include world class hiking, fly-fishing, fishing in general, indoor skating-(post renovations), zip lining, mountain biking. Easy walk to many shops, restaurants, bars and outdoor adventures.

Grand Adirondack Hotel is transitioning from the Hotel North Woods completing a through renovation of the entire building to become one of the newest members of the Marriott Tribute Portfolio Collection. The Grand Adirondack Hotel looks to its storied past through a modern lens to reinvigorate an iconic building and again become a vibrant hub in the heart of Lake Placid for travelers and locals alike. It's designed for those with an appreciation for new adventures and the laid-back luxury of the Grand Adirondack hotels of the past. It will again feature 92 upscale rooms. Some units will have spectacular views of Mirror Lake and the High Peaks Region. The Hotel will have two new restaurants, full bar, private venue spaces including a roof-top venue with bar overlooking Mirror Lake and the High Peaks Region. Ideally located in the center of Lake Placid, it is an easy walk to many shops, other restaurants, bars, and other attractions. It will also carry on the tradition that the former Hotel had of featuring a live entertainment venue.
