When to Visit

Savannah is a great destination no matter the season, but spring is the most popular time to visit. From March to May, temperatures are mild and the flowers are blooming. This time of year also brings a frenzy of seasonal festivals, which makes spring Savannah's high season. Hotel rates are going to be on the pricier side until summer when sweltering temperatures drive the crowds away. If you can stand the heat, you can take advantage of drastic summertime savings.

Savannah's shoulder season is from mid-September to mid-November, making it a nice sweet spot that combines affordable prices with ideal weather. The city sees another dip in hotel prices in January and February after the holiday season. Since there's really no bad time to visit Savannah, it's best to ask yourself whether the heat or crowds would bother you most, and plan your trip accordingly.

If you're looking to book one of the more upscale hotels in Savannah, you're in luck. The city offers several accommodations that boast exclusive amenities, so if you're willing to splurge on the best, you have your choice of luxury offerings.

The Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront is one of Savannah's swankiest hotels. With a prime location overlooking the river, which places it mere steps from River Street dining and shopping, The Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront has been acknowledged as one of the top hotels in the South. The property has been decorated with a pleasant blend of modern style and vintage allure, with many elements evoking an 18th century maritime flavor. Enjoy an exceptional concierge service, in-room dining, private dining room, a modern lounge, the Rocks on the River Modern Grill, and original pieces of art throughout the hotel.

If you prefer a high-class boutique experience, head to The Gastonian. This luxury B&B is situated inside two adjoining mansions that were built in 1868. Each of the 17 rooms are filled with antiques and feature working fireplaces, free Wi-Fi, and DVD players; some even feature claw-foot tubs and four-poster beds. Waking up in The Gastonian means experiencing a gourmet breakfast first thing, but the hotel also offers afternoon wine and hors d'oeurves to give guests the chance to mingle. As if that wasn't enough, savor event dessert and cordials every night before bed.

Another great boutique hotel is The Brice, across from Emmet Park. Inside, you'll experience a stylish blend of modern flair and vintage beauty that's been dubbed "slightly rebellious elegance." Simply put, it's a trendier version of the historic lodgings you'll find throughout the city. The Brice offers guest rooms with Italian linens, European-style showers, private balconies, and in-room spa treatments. This hotel is also a great option if you're traveling with canine companions, as The Brice provides pet bowls, a pet bed, plastic bags, a dog leash, and a VIP (Very Important Pet) amenity upon your arrival.

For a stay among the magnificent oaks and magnolias in Lafayette Square, book a room at the Hamilton-Turner Inn. This upscale B&B in the historic district provides detail-oriented service from start to finish, so you can indulge in quality wines and hors d'oeurves in the parlor. Other complimentary amenities include daily breakfast, coffee and
newspaper, afternoon refreshments, and a nightly turndown service.

Whether you're looking for an on-site spa or fitness facility, an indoor pool, or a swanky blend of the old and new, Savannah offers numerous luxury accommodations that suit every taste.

If you know where to look, you can take advantage of special deals throughout Savannah. Many hotels offer discounts for seniors, military, and AAA members, so don't be afraid to ask. Official tourism websites also offer coupons on lodging, dining, activities, and attractions.

As with any destination, you'll want to book your room and flight at least three weeks in advance to enjoy a low rate. With that being said, last-minute deals are often available, but you run the risk of missing out on your preferred travel dates. If you plan on staying several days, inquire about any multi-day discounts and package deals when booking your hotel.

Best Value Options in Savannah, GA

For those wanting a mid-range experience that's not quite low-budget but not as costly as a luxury hotel, Savannah offers a range of valuable lodgings for the moderate budget. The three-star Courtyard Savannah Downtown/Historic District – Marriott is a great option in the heart of Savannah. You can even book a guided tour and inquire about other local activities at the front desk.

Insider Tips for Staying in Savannah

Most visitors clamor for the chance to stay in Savannah's Historic District for good reason. The district offers numerous shops, swanky lodgings, landmark buildings, and yummy dining options mere steps from your hotel lobby. River Street, in particular, is often crowded and has a carnival-style atmosphere that's hard to miss. If you're staying at one of the excellent accommodations along River Street, be prepared for street noise all night long. If you'd rather not sleep with ear plugs, ask for a quiet room facing Bay Street instead, or check to see if the hotel offers noise-reducing windows.

Savannah is also one of the few cities in the country with an open container policy, which means you can stroll around the historic district with an alcoholic beverage, as long as it's contained in a plastic cup. If walking around town isn't ideal, take advantage of the city's DOT shuttle bus, which provides free public transportation.

One of the best ways to acclimate yourself to Savannah is to take a tour your first full day there. Thankfully, the city offers a number of guided tour options. The popular trolley tours focus on Savannah's history, and the hop-on hop-off passes make it easy to get around while learning about the city's highlights. Going on a ghost tour is also a must. It's common knowledge among the locals that every corner of Savannah has a story to tell, so if you don't mind a little creep factor, book a guided ghost tour or haunted pub crawl.

When planning a trip to Savannah, it's important to explore your options. Draw up an itinerary of must-see spots and find a hotel that places you in the heart of the action. Whether you need a cheap lodging or an upscale hotel with all the perks, you'll find a hotel in Savannah to fit your travel budget.

Travel overview of Savannah, GA

When it comes to beauty, Savannah is in a league of its own. Seventeen miles upstream from the river, Georgia's old town gem comes unparalleled. American towns no longer hold that kind of distinct beauty, characterized by garden squares swathed by Spanish moss, encircled by perfectly preserved historic districts. But of course, Georgia tells you that kind of beauty isn't elusive, at least when you're in Savannah. Millions of tourists head to the Atlantic port to wallow on every architectural style from the 18th and 19th century available, partnered by a timeless cobbled waterfront and old cotton warehouses on the side. Savannah almost lost its appeal throughout the years, have the citizens not pursued a restoration in the sixties. The Hostess City of the South promises to take you to new heights, or more appropriately, the oldest sights. Its signature southern charm has attracted artists into the town, most of who reside because of the Savannah College of Art and Design. With a population keen on restoration, it's not impossible to imagine that Savannah can get prettier.

'I'm just a cool type of guy who's all about positives.', said rapper Antwan Andre Patton, who is better known by his stage name Big Boi.

He was born in Savannah and his quote summarizes the spirit of the local people of this city quite well. So, you can really have some great time in Savannah! Millions of tourists go to this city every year just to experience its positive vibe and to feel as a part of it even if just for a while! Shani C., from 23-Jul-2017
"Great hotel and visiting spots!"
Score 5.0 / 5

Savannah is such a beautiful and historical city. We went because of the founder of Girl Scouts, Juliette Gordon Low. We were celebrating her life and achievements. The carriage ride, with the stories told by the drivers, were great. We got history and ghost stories both. We went on a dolphin cruise and I was surprised at how many dolphins actually followed our boat. Tybee Island Lighthouse was a bonus for the girls to climb and enjoy. Swimming at the beach was another favorite they enjoyed. It was a wonderful 4 days and we will certainly do it again. I'm looking forward to next time and getting to see some of the forts.

"Amazing City!!"
Score 5.0 / 5

Savannah was amazing. Had been there before but this was a different experience. There were 26 in our group. We had no issues with finding places to eat that could seat all of us together. St. John's Cathedral is a must see for anyone coming to Savannah. One of very few sights that have just taken my breath away. It was amazing. Trolley tour company sent a trolley to the hotel to pick up our group and brought us back at the end of the day. This was so helpful given the parking situation in and around Savannah as well as the age of our group (the youngest member of our group is 56). It was an excellent way to get the layout of the city and afterwards, we split up and each had a clear plan of what and where to go. River Walk was an experience in itself. 13 of us met up at the Shrimp Factory for a lunch. Food was excellent and service was amazing. All 26 of us met up to have an early dinner at The Pirate House. We were seated within 30 minutes and everyone in the group RAVED about the food. Service was again excellent. City Market very interesting but we definitely preferred River Walk. Parking was definitely an issue but manageable. It was an amazing trip for our group.

Savannah is a very historic, touristy, great city to visit. There are many museums, restaurants, hotels, and activities for visitors. I will more than likely visit Savannah again.

"Charming Southern City"
Score 4.0 / 5

The city of Savannah is a charming southern city with a lot of history. The city squares are fun to explore (we had a step-on-guide), and the Riverwalk was enjoyable strolling down, shopping, people-watching, restaurants, etc. Be sure to try the pralines and ice cream! Also, we had supper at Paula Dean's Lady and Sons Restaurant and Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room.
