Property Description
The White Hart Royal hotel was once a "coaching inn". Its reputation was enhanced when King Charles I sheltered in the inn following the battle of Marston Moor on 2nd July 1644. A copy of the King's unpaid bill is commemorated on a plaque within the entrance lobby. The principal part of the hotel was built of sandstone under a pegged oak roof in the early 17th century. It was substantially extended in 1773 and 1782 and now these original buildings have been lovingly restored following a major refurbishment programme supervised by conservation officers from Cotswold District Council – there are no modern extensions to this grade II listed property. The hotel's collection of period artifacts and paintings reflect the four centuries of its evolution while guests now have use of facilities equipped to 21st century standards. The White Hart Royal provides a great atmospheric alternative to modern hotels or purpose built conference centres for meetings, seminars, events or private functions. The hotel is conveniently located in the centre of Moreton-in-Marsh in the Cotswolds and within walking distance of the principal railway station for the Evenlode Valley, the Cotswolds & Oxford. Our Function/Event room is in a perfectly proportioned late 18th century Georgian extension to the main building with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the hotel's inner courtyard. It accommodates up to 65 guests, has a private bar and comes complete with integral data projector, retractable screen and state of the art sound system. Guests can use the dedicated bar or the nearby Oxford Room to breakout and relax, whilst the adjacent inner courtyard is ideal for al fresco dining.
