"Rustic is fine, but charm, warmth, service lacking."
Overall Score2.0/ 5
When we booked at the HR Hotel, we were expecting and looking forward to a rustic setting, so we were fine with the small room and bathroom (and bed was comfortable I will say). But we also were looking forward to some charm and warmth in exchange for the lack of conveniences. Desk staff seemed unengaged and uninclined to offer any suggestions for things to do in town. Parking was poorly explained. Lobby is indifferently and uncomfortably furnished; amenities should include more than a deck of cards and a puzzle. Restaurant should have a sign saying when they ARE open (instead of a terse "Restaurant Closed"), or the desk staff should explain at check in. Our room, 306, billed as "Rooftop Garden," looked out on an inner rooftop space jumbled with stored items and utility apparatus hardly a garden. I am not usually a complainer, but it seemed to us that the owner is missing out on an opportunity to project charm, warmth, nostalgia, friendliness a more lodge like experience. I'm sorry to say it but I felt like somebody needed to hear it.
