Green sustainability
Huatulco became the first EarthCheck Certified Gold community in the Americas in 2011. It has been re-certified every year since and was recently awarded the prestigious Platinum Certification for its sustainable environmental practices. The EarthCheck Program is widely regarded as the world's most scientifically rigorous and is focused on minimizing harmful emissions while supporting host communities. Huatulco guarantees visitors an enjoyable stay in a pristine destination with clean and safe streets and beaches.
Blue Flag is an international certification of beaches, marinas and major vessels in the world, which promotes sustainable management of coastal destinations and recognizes those who achieve excellence. To receive recognition, a national and an international jury analyzed and evaluated there excellence in the areas of: water quality, environmental education, environmental management, safety and services. Blue Flag has standardized protocols and strict selection process, verification and monitoring. Chahue beach, located 350 mts. away from the hotel is a Blue Flag certificated beach.
Huatulco has all the types of wetlands described by the Ramsar Convention, which are five: estuarine, marine, lacustrine, riparian and swamp.
In Ramsar Site 1321, local communities are constantly searching for sustainability and sustainable development based on the rational management of their natural capital. The National Commission of Protected Natural Areas, through the Huatulco National Park (PNH), administers, manages and proposes: sustainable management and use measures of the wetlands of the entire Ramsar Site 1321, which includes the territory of the PNH, its zone of influence, the tourist destination and a large part of the municipality.
