"Very nice for the price, would stay again."
Overall Score4.0/ 5
While there were somewhat cheaper offerings available, we chose Timber House based on their being dog-friendly and the look (i.e. rooms looked more modern, linens/decor, etc. than the Comfort Inns, etc. that showed nearby). We stayed mid-week so found the hotel to be very quiet. Family-owned, very friendly staff, very welcoming. We had no issues with absentee staff noted by others, though it is a small place (10 rooms or less, I think), so they don't man the desk at all times (no reason to). They have a big reception area and outdoor tent, clearly do a lot of weddings. Note: no TV's in most rooms, as long as you're aware, that's fine. Breakfast made to order and no complaints. Again staff are accommodating and very nice. I wouldn't give 5 out of 5 because of the 'fireplace' in our king room (the only room with a fireplace). It's better to not have one than to advertise/have such a strange setup. The fireplace is gas, but you can only turn it on-off from the common area outside the room, because it's a see-through glass fireplace that serves both the common area and your hotel room. Since this causes an obvious privacy problem, they've provided a mini-curtain in the room, in front of the fireplace (blocks people from peeking through from the common area). So you can go outside your room to turn it on-off, and risk your privacy while in use, or you can just look at a curtain covering the unusable fireplace during your stay. Not so romantic. We've stayed in Picton/Brighton before at the Huff Inn/Winery, which had beautiful rooms with better fireplaces/baths; Timber House had better options for walking around, and has the water nearby; depending on your requirements one or the other is better.
