The Council Bluffs center is around the area of Historic Squirrel Cage Jail and the area of River's Edge Park.

Council Bluffs, Iowa, is on the east bank of the Missouri River, directly across from Omaha, Nebraska. While Council Bluffs is older than Omaha, it's a much smaller city. Until 1852, Council Bluffs was actually known as Kanesville, after benefactor Thomas L. Kane. However, the city was renamed in honor of a meeting between the Lewis and Clark Expedition and the Otoe tribe that took place at Council Bluff. I was disappointed that when I contacted the convention and visitors center, I never got a return call or e-mail. Because of that, we did not do anything in Council Bluffs other than spend the night. What a shame for the city.
