'Whenever I go to England, I'm on pilgrimage. I walk the countryside around Eastbourne because that's where Sherlock Holmes retired.' These beautiful words were said by an American author Laurie R. King, best known for her detective novels.

The Old New Saru

Salisbury is a lovely cathedral city in Wiltshire, England. Since 1227 and even till 2009 the city had a different name. It was called New Sarum, but after establishing the Salisbury City Council the name was changed. Even though the city is famous for its gorgeous cathedral and the ruins of the former one, the tourists mostly visit the city before or after seeing the great English legend, Stonehenge, which is located only about 8 miles from Salisbury. So if you want to visit Stonehenge and see some more English historical sites and architecture, go along and read this list of short recommendations on what to see and do in Salisbury. As you obviously will need a place to sleep and put your bags during your stay, we are also giving you some advices on great Salisbury hotels. Even though it is not that hard to find hotels in Salisbury, a great advice is always better than simply looking for a good place on your own.

Where to Stay Cheap in Salisbury

There are dozens of cheap hotels in Salisbury, you just need to figure it out, which one will fit your basic needs. The Center of Old Music and Art

But if you already have seen the beautiful Stonehenge, what else can you see in Salisbury? Actually, quite a lot. We recommend you to start from Salisbury Cathedral, Old Sarum, The Salisbury Museum and Mompesson House. Then you could visit The Parish Church of St Thomas and St Edmund, Arundells, Wilton House and Larmer Tree Gardens. You can even get an adrenaline and extreme tour of skydiving in Salisbury. By doing this you will be able to enjoy the gorgeous views of the city from above and to know what it really feels like to combine sites seeing, fun activities and knowing more about the history of Salisbury.
