The connection to the former California governor and then the president brings thousands of people to Eureka yearly. Ronald Reagan was born in Tampico, IL, but he spent his childhood and teenage years moving around several cities of Illinois. He ended up in Eureka for his college education.Reagan wasn't an excellent student, as he graduated with a C average. However, he was very socially active, participated in sports, football and swimming, and developed a love for acting during his college career.Ronald was extremely successful at campus politics and was elected student body president. Eureka still gets substantial traffic of people that tour the campus and want to see the marks Reagan left after himself. Ronald Reagan stayed close to his college throughout his life and came back to his hometown several times, even during the presidency. Ronald Reagan helped with the college's funding, gave several commencement speeches, and dedicated the Melick Library building (1967) and Reagan Physical Education Center (1970). When the former president died in 2004 Eureka College was one of the designated recipients of memorial gifts from Reagan's family. While you're in town visit the Ronald W.
