It was incorporated as a city more than a century ago and one of Portland's most well-known residents supported the construction of a paper mill. This mill is what gives the high school its mascot, “the Papermakers.” Over the years, the original mill produced toilet paper, newsprint, napkins, and even shipyard parts during World War II. Several major companies have set up offices in Camas since then, including Underwriters Labs, Hewlett-Packard, Linear Technology, Sharp Microelectronics, and WaterTech.
When should I visit Camas, WA?
Since it's part of the Pacific Northwest, it's not too surprising that Camas receives quite a bit of rain each year. The rainiest times of the year include the late fall, winter, and spring when it can rain more than half the month. It rarely gets too hot in Camas, with highs in the low 80-degree range during the summer months, and lows that don't often dip below freezing. The city receives about 4 inches of snow and 61 inches of rain per year on average. When visiting, it's always smart to bring water-resistant outerwear and footwear to protect you from the rain.
One of the main events that can impact hotel rates in Camas is the annual Camas Days festival, which occurs each summer. In late July, many members of the community and the surrounding cities enjoy iconic bathtub races, activities for kids, street vendors, live music, a parade, and an entire street dedicated to wines and microbrews. The event takes place in Downtown Camas, so hotels around the area tend to be more expensive when it's taking place.
Events in Portland can also impact hotel prices in Camas. Some of these events include the Reel Music Festival in January, the Portland Jazz Festival in February, the Portland Rose Festival in May and June, Hood to Coast Relay in August, and the Portland Marathon in October.
