When you walk down Main Street in Berlin, you'll be walking in the footsteps of those who lived here hundreds of years ago. It's the original path made by the Assateague and Pocomoke who were the first inhabitants of the area. In colonial times, the route was called the Philadelphia Post Road and connected centers of commerce. The Burleigh Inn was the main place to stay in town, and it's believed the town's name came from this business.
As the years passed, Berlin grew and became a popular spot for tourists to stop when they were looking to hunt, swim, and fish on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Only 15 minutes from Ocean City and Assateague Island National Seashore, Berlin is an excellent location from which to explore and enjoy all that the area has to offer.
