The East Texas region is filled with peaceful, easy-going cities and towns, each with its own charm. When it comes to Tyler, I absolutely love the town! If I had landed a full-time job with my bachelor's degree back then, I'd probably still be living there—24 years later.
Tyler and Longview remind me of smaller versions of Dallas and Fort Worth. Tyler continues to grow and expand, while Longview still holds on to that classic, vintage small-town feel. Tyler is definitely worth a visit—especially if you're craving some good East Texas cookin'.
Beyond those two, towns like Lufkin, Jacksonville, Palestine, Marshall, Athens, Texarkana, and Nacogdoches are also great places to explore, each offering a unique slice of East Texas hospitality and culture.

We had a very long drive getting there and did enjoy the Texas Roadhouse and were surprised at the excellent treatment while there especially the waitress named Maci. She was 'over and above' in her job. While passing through we did notice the cleanliness of the roads we traveled. Tyler was a good experience overall.
