In 1911 the town started irrigated farming from the use of the first deep water wells, a year later, Texas Land & Development Co. built a demonstration well by the Santa Fe Railway Depot, creating what became Lake Plainview. They created a park around the lake that quickly became a popular spot in town. Over the years the park was lost due to the cities budget and because a fire burned down the old pump house in 1917. In 1977 the city rebuilt the park.
The town of Plainview is full of old Texas history. Mostly unchanged over the years, this town offers a lot of opportunity for small-town sightseeing.
