Experience Southwestern Colorado's ski playground, blue skies, powder snow and three great ski areas, Telluride Ski Resort, Durango Mountain and Silverton Mountain are open Thanksgiving through early April. The panoramic splendor of the San Juan Mountains, where the desert-lands collide with the southernmost point of the Rocky Mountains, are the most photographed mountains in the United States. Within this region you will find scenic high mountain drives, including the San Juan Skyway with the highest concentration of mountain peaks over 14,000 ft. The winter adventures surrounding these three ski areas are as varied as the terrain at each location. “Mild to Wild” is everything from snow shoeing, cross county skiing, snowmobiling, dog sledding to ice climbing and extreme skiing and snowboarding. Ridgway is centrally located to all 3 ski areas. Orvis Hot Springs is only a mile away, a great place to soak apres ski. Ouray, known as the Little Switzerland of America, is home to the first Ice Park. Two internationally acclaimed ice climbing events take place here; the Ouray Ice Climbing Festival on the second weekend of Jan., and Chics with Pics, the first all female ice climbing event, takes place in January. Ouray is also home to several hot springs including the scenic town pool. Internationally famed, Telluride hosts numerous festivals annually, Bluegrass, Jazz, Film, and Blues and Brews.
