Mont-Tremblant gets its name from the Algonquins term for trembling mountain. They were the original inhabitants of Mont-Tremblant, living peacefully there long before parish priest Antoine Labelle arrived in 1872. He established a local church in 1879 and helped drive development in Mont-Tremblant. The city was built on the back of its agriculture and logging industries, although today Mont-Tremblant is more famous as a skiing destination.

Only gaining its city status in 2000, Mont-Tremblant is one of Canada's most modern cities. Enjoy all its facilities on your next Canadian getaway.

When to Visit Mont-Tremblant, QC

The best time for visiting Mont-Tremblant all depends on your vacation motivation. Winter is a natural choice for anyone wanting to hit the slopes. The months of November through to February are ideal for skiing, snowboarding, and just messing about in the powder. Winters in Mont-Tremblant are cold, often dropping to minus 30 degrees Celsius.

The wind chill can make it feel even icier though. The freezing temps create the thick coverage snow bunnies love, but can be unbearable if you're not there to ski. A good snow season also attracts plenty of tourists, so book your hotel early to avoid a serious price hike.

For a milder Mont-Tremblant experience, try visiting during fall. The weather is perfectly pleasant for hiking and bike rides, especially in September which typically enjoys comfortable temps in the low 20s. Showers are also less common than they are during summer and spring, although the weather on the mountain can be unpredictable. You'd be wise to pack an umbrella, just in case.

There are only 30 suites in all, so all guests enjoy personalized customer service that's second to none. Affordable Hotel Options in Mont-Tremblant, QC

3 Star Average Prices: $999.00

Mont-Tremblant is famous for its resorts, but there are still some affordable hotel options for travelers on a budget. As the city has just a few low-priced hotels, it's smart to book well in advance to secure a great room.

Holiday Inn is a trusted name in budget travel. Holiday Inn Express & Suites Tremblant delivers what you'd expect of this popular chain, with simple rooms that are comfortable and clean. Recently renovated, many include full kitchens and gas fireplaces. Guests enjoy a free continental breakfast buffet each morning and complimentary coffee at any time. While there's no onsite eatery, local restaurants and bars are an easy walk away. There's also a seasonal swimming pool, sauna, outdoor hot tub, and a small fitness center with a TV to help you get through your workout.

Mont-Tremblant even has its own backpackers' accommodation, the Hi Mont Tremblant Youth Hostel. It's a fantastic place for meeting new people, with barbecues every Thursday and Saturday night, pool and foosball tables, and La Barbotte Bar on site. Shared dorm-style rooms will help you save money but if you prefer more space you could choose one of the affordable private rooms. Canoe rentals and Wi-Fi are both free for guests.

Best Value Options in Mont-Tremblant, QC

When you want to see value from your Mont-Tremblant vacation, you should choose a hotel that offers something that's a little different from the average. The following boutique establishments are luxurious without being over-the-top. The little extras included in your room rate will help you and your traveling companions see real value.

Chateau Beauvallon Mont-Tremblant offers spacious, well-furnished one- to four-bedroom suites, rather than regular rooms, that feel like homes away from home. They all have cooking facilities, so you can make your own meals, or treat yourself to the onsite Prime Steak and Sushi Bar. Unwind after a busy day in the guest lounge, with pool and foosball tables, or the adults-only scotch bar. The outdoor pool opens during summer, but you can enjoy the water in the indoor pool or outdoor hot tub at any time of year. The complimentary continental breakfast each morning helps you start the day right.

Rather than splurging on recreational activities, why not stay at Le Grand Lodge Mont Tremblant where you can do it all? Teens love swimming independently in the supervised pool. A lifeguard also watches over the private beach. For more watery fun, enjoy free canoe, kayak, or pedalboat hire. The lodge also has indoor and outdoor spas, a mixed sauna, and a steam bath. The clay tennis courts are great fun; book a private lesson or join the free clinic if you need to brush up on your backhand. And that's all before you discover the beautiful rooms and suites!

Skiing in Mont-Tremblant, QC

Mont-Tremblant's ski slopes are its biggest attraction. Plan your ski getaway carefully to make the most of your vacation. Book your accommodation early, as hotels fill quickly during the busy ski season. Investigate ski passes to choose the best option for your family. Short-term winter lift passes are ideal for short getaways, while unlimited ski season passes can be the best value for a longer break.

Ski equipment is another expense to consider. Unless you're a regular skier, you'll probably find renting equipment is your best option. Mont-Tremblant has many ski rental stores that carry the latest ski equipment for significantly less than buying new. When you rent, you also don't need to worry about transporting your equipment to Mont-Tremblant.

Pack a lot of layers in your luggage. While you'll be cold when you arrive, you'll inevitably want to strip down once you get warmed up. You'll also need fewer layers when you're relaxing by the fire at the end of the day.

When you hit the slopes, ski within your limits. There's no shame in hitting the beginner zones or getting lessons until you're more confident. The instructors can help you learn or relearn the basics and improve your technique before you ski independently. It's much better to start with tame slopes than overcommit and spend your vacation in the nearest hospital.

Whether you're there to ski or simply reconnect with nature, you'll enjoy an idyllic vacation in picturesque Mont-Tremblant. Just remember that the area can get crowded during the winter months, so book early if your heart is set on a snowy getaway.
