The Bloomsburg center is around the area of Bloomsburg University and 9 miles east of Geisinger Health Systems.

In the late 1700s, a log cabin popped up in Bloomsburg offering the first signs of settlement in the area. Land disputes disrupted this sleepy area, and it was eventually designated as part of Pennsylvania. A tannery was the first major industry in the town, but there wasn't much activity in the area until the discovery of ore. That discovery turned the tiny village into a booming iron industry. Bloomsburg became the county seat in the mid-1800s with the courthouse opening in 1847. Bloomsburg government was organized as a town instead of a city making it unique in Pennsylvania.
