The Bloomsburg center is around the area of Bloomsburg University and 9 miles east of Geisinger Health Systems.

In the late 1700s, a log cabin popped up in Bloomsburg offering the first signs of settlement in the area. Land disputes disrupted this sleepy area, and it was eventually designated as part of Pennsylvania. A tannery was the first major industry in the town, but there wasn't much activity in the area until the discovery of ore. That discovery turned the tiny village into a booming iron industry. Bloomsburg became the county seat in the mid-1800s with the courthouse opening in 1847. Bloomsburg government was organized as a town instead of a city making it unique in Pennsylvania. Once the iron in the area was exhausted, the economy shifted in Bloomsburg. Textile mills and a greenhouse popped up to replace the iron industry. In 1866, Bloomsburg University opened, further shaping the economy. The town has evolved significantly since then, but Bloomsburg University is still educating students with an enrollment of about 8,000 students. Much of the history remains through the covered bridges, museums, and historic buildings maintained throughout the town.
