Dallas was first settled by European settlers in 1797 when Ephraim McCoy, a Revolutionary War soldier, built a log cabin near present-day Dallas. Other settlers followed suit, and a township formed in 1817. The community was named for Alexander J. Dallas, who was the 6th United States Secretary of the Treasury and father of James Polk's vice president.
During the early 19th century, the area was home to several sawmills along Toby Creek, which helped attract even more new residents. Dallas then incorporated as a borough in 1879.
Today, Dallas makes up 18.7 square miles of the 118-square-mile Back Mountain region. Most of the township consists of forests and farmland, but the southern portion is densely populated. Dallas is considered a great place to live and work thanks to the friendly, welcoming residents who call the borough home.
Whatever your reason for visiting this part of the Back Mountain, it's important to find the right hotel that allows you to explore everything this beautiful region has to offer.
