Camden is a city in the southeastern part of New Jersey, located directly across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was incorporated in 1828 and has been the county seat of Camden County since 1844. The city includes more than 20 different neighborhoods and a unique history. When it was first incorporated and through the end of World War II, Camden was very prosperous. Following the war, manufacturers began closing factories and relocating, so the history has been impacted by the economic downturn. There are two universities and two hospitals within Camden, which employ nearly half of the residents with jobs. More from this guide...

The Philadelphia 76ers, a team in the NBA, announced its plan to move its home offices and practice facility to the Camden Waterfront in 2014.

When to Visit Camden, New Jersey

The best times to visit Camden are between March and May when the weather is more moderate but hotel rooms still offer reasonable rates. The spike in tourism in Philadelphia during the late spring and summer season can impact room rates in Camden. If you can brave the cold and snow, head to Camden during the winter to score the lowest rates on rooms. Near the end of September, the temperatures start to drop, which lowers the tourism quite a bit.

Major events in Philly that can impact room rates in Camden include the Flower Show and St. Patrick's Day Parade in March, the Mann Music Center summer concerts in July, and the Philadelphia Marathon in November.
