The Stetson Mansion, the former home of cowboy hat maker John B. Stetson, is located in DeLand, a short trip north from Deltona on Highway 4. The mansion was the first luxury home built in Florida and was the winter retreat for the hat mogul and his family. Decades later, the mansion was restored and modernized. Although most of the Stetsons' original possessions have been removed, the mansion is open for tours and can be rented for events. Tours are available, but reservations are required.
If you've always wanted to see the manatees, Blue Spring State Park gives the opportunity for visitors to get up close and personal with the gentle "cows of the sea." There's a small fee per car to enter the park, but once inside, visitors can swim in the waters of the spring unless it's manatee season. During the manatees' migration, guests are invited to watch the manatees in their natural habitat or go bird watching instead. The park is home to the endangered Florida Scrub Jay, which calls the park home year-round.
