Horseshoe Bay was a ranch before cousins Norman and Wayne Hurd began developing the land as a lakeshore resort in 1972. Wayne Hurd named the resort area after finding a horseshoe in the lake bed when the water level dropped, exposing the soil. Over the next two decades, Horseshoe Bay grew to serve resortgoers and retirees. In fact, many of the homes constructed served as second homes for those who used Horseshoe Bay as a getaway site. By 2000, the community grew to include 37 businesses and more than 3,330 residents. It was officially incorporated in 2005.
Today, Horseshoe Bay remains a retirement and resort community that has a police department, a fire department, two banks, and a post office. Popular recreational amenities include a marina, a yacht club, and an 18-hole golf course. Whatever your reason for visiting Horseshoe Bay, it's important to find the right hotel that allows you to experience everything this wonderful community has to offer.
When as the best time to visit Horseshoe Bay, TX?
Horseshoe Bay has hot, humid summers and mild-to-cool winters. Thanks to the community's plethora of water recreation, most tourists are drawn to the area during the summer when schoolchildren are on break. Keep in mind, however, that average highs hover around 98 degrees in July and August, which is hot enough to keep most visitors indoors.
If you want to enjoy the water amenities without overheating, plan your trip for the spring or fall. Average highs hit around 82 degrees in April and October, with both months experiencing average lows of 58 degrees. Best of all, hotel rates tend to be reasonable during the off-seasons, which can help you save money on your trip to Horseshoe Bay.
Don't discount a wintertime getaway, however. While Texas does get cold, especially in January, it rarely snows or ices. If you're the type of person who enjoys a brisk stroll over a boat ride, winter might be the perfect time to visit.
