The history of Kings Beach began when card shark Joe King won the rights to the area in a poker game long ago. The town has become a major destination for millions of visitors each year. It's a low-key, laid-back kind of place full of active people. They enjoy a vigorous hike up a mountain path as well as a relaxing, sunny day at the beach.
The sunny Kings Beach State Recreation Area provides easy access to the public beach, parking, and local eateries. It's a prime spot for locals and visitors alike. Lake Tahoe is the largest freshwater alpine lake in North America and the second deepest in the U.S. In addition to enjoying the water, you can head into the surrounding natural areas and mountains any time of the year. Kings Beach is at the junction of Highways 267 and 28, a perfect location for accessing the lake and the North Shore's many ski resorts.
