The city of Manheim, Pennsylvania, was established in 1762 by Henry William Stiegel. A German immigrant, he came to Philadelphia and settled north in what is now Manheim to build an industrial empire. He was also part of the German Society of Pennsylvania, which helped the newly arrived German immigrants get settled in their new country. Siegel also donated land on which a Lutheran church is now built on. The town was named after the German city with the same name. He founded Manheim Glassworks, but was forced to sell it and his development due to financial troubles in 1780. More from this guide...

In 1838, the town was officially incorporated. The first division of the Reading and Columbia Railroad was completed in 1862 when the first railroad train came to Manheim. Water pipes were laid in 1884, and service came from the Manheim Electric Company, encouraging more settlers to move to the town. The electric utility had a plant in the city, providing residents with more job opportunities. More and more people began moving to the town and establishing homes, but the town has remained relatively small. As of 2013, the town's population was just under 5,000 people.
