European occupation of this area dates back to the 17th century, beginning with the Marquis de Denonville's expedition. In fact, this area wasn't even a part of New York until 1788 when Massachusetts surrendered it. The modern community was originally founded as Northfield just eight years later, but it was split into Pittsford and neighboring Henrietta in 1814.
Pittsford remained largely agrarian for the following years until the Erie Canal and the Auburn and Rochester Railroad were completed. Since that time, the city has grown into a thriving community with all sorts of shopping opportunities. You'll find country clubs here, as well, highlighting the high standard of living that has taken over the area.
To explore everything Pittsford has to offer, you'll need a comfortable place to stay in between your New York adventures. Whether you're looking for something more affordable or you want to go all in on luxury accommodations, Pittsford has plenty of hotels to choose from.
When is a good time to visit Pittsford, NY?
Pittsford is located near New York's northern border, and you should expect cold temperatures if you're traveling this far north during the winter. Average temperatures are well below freezing in both January and February, but average highs can get above 32 degrees. The summer is a different story, however, as comfortable temperatures in the high 60s and low 70s are common from June through August. July highs often surpass 80 degrees, so keep that in mind if you're trying to escape the heat. Regarding the buffer seasons, spring tends to be colder than fall.
New York, in general, gets quite a bit of rain, and Pittsford is no exception. If you're trying to avoid the rain, however, the best time to travel would be early winter or mid-March. While the daily chance of precipitation is notably lower, there will still likely be some snow on the ground. For a dry and snow-free experience, May is probably your best bet. To avoid the rain, don't travel during October. Rainfall is higher in October than all other months, with a 30 percent chance of rain each day and 3.7 inches of precipitation expected during the month.
Because of the warmth, summer months are the busiest for travelers. If you plan your trip for summer, you're bound to have a great time, but hotel prices are going to be a bit higher. For the best deals on Pittsford hotels, traveling during the winter is the best option. The cold can be off-putting to many travelers, however, so fall or spring tend to provide good compromises. Because rain is more common in the fall months, springtime bookings are going to be slightly more expensive.
