This area was the home to the Potawatomi tribe until the early 19th century. When the state of Illinois started developing the Illinois-Michigan Canal, the rapid growth of Westmont slowed the construction process. Many of the locals relied on farming, helping to push agriculture to the forefront of the village's economy. Workers built a plank road that allowed for the transport of produce between Naperville and Chicago, which is now known as U.S. Route 34. A railroad line was later built, helping to transition Westmont into a commuter community.
When should you visit Westmont, Illinois?
The climate in Westmont is similar to the climate in Chicago, which includes cold, snowy winters and hot, humid summers. The village experiences rainfall about six to eight days per month and receives quite a bit of snow during the winter months, which may deter visitors from coming during this chilly season. The spring and fall seasons have lower humidity levels and more moderate temperatures, so both are great times to visit Westmont.
Although Westmont doesn't host any major events that draw crowds of people, happenings in Chicago may impact hotel rates in the nearby village. Some of the largest events in Chicago include the Chicago Underground Film Festival in early March, the Chicago St. Patrick's Day Parade in mid-March, the Taste of Chicago in July, Lollapalooza in early August, and the Chicago Jazz Festival in late August through early September.
