After their first visit to Erfurt, the Zumnorde family was so taken by the charm of the city and its similarities in character with their hometown of Mu¨nster that they decided to open a new shoe shop in one of the historic buildings on the Anger Square in 1991. Behind the façades dating back to the year 1860, the first four-star hotel on the square followed three years later with 56 spacious rooms, suites and holiday apartments, as well as a fantastic rooftop garden, all in the heart of the city. Today the venerable townhouses on the Anger Square are home to the Schuhhaus Zumnorde shoe shop and the Hotel Zumnorde, as well as the restaurant, wine bar with beer garden and the smoking lounge.
