Biwako hotel was originally opened in 1934 as the first resort hotel in the region, then moved to the the southern end of Lake Biwa, Japan's largest inland lake, in 1998. Uniquely designed by César Pelli, the compositional feature of the complex is a series of curves set parallel to the shoreline to maximize views of the lake.
